My Saturn is out of this world

I purchased my 07 Outlook in March of 08 (it had roughly 23K miles) I did not want to jump to the 8cyl large SUV class: this vehicle has been a great choice. In roughly the year and a half that I have owned it - it has yet to give me an issue (now at 55K miles) I find it very comfortable and it has surpassed my expectations with ease. I highly recommend this vehicle.

transmission most frustrating

I have to agree completely with the grandpa from Texas. We are experiencing the same exact problem with our Outlook. The transmission is always looking for the right gear to be in. Very frustrating to know that Saturn is aware of the problem and can not come up with a fix for those of us that are having this problem. Aside from those problems we do like the handling of the car and the roominess inside it is just what we wanted.

Poor power-train design

The V-6 engine and 6 speed automatic along with the computerized acceleration/shifting system are very frustrating and annoying. Even my wife who isn?t mechanically inclined complains about the abrupt down/up shifting. This excessive shifting causes the engine to rev up/down continuously and is probably the main contributor for the poor fuel economy of 16.5 to 17 gpm most of the time. At any time the driver attempts to gently accelerate at any speed simply to maintain a distance between the vehicle in front or even maintain a speed, the acceleration peddle has a dead spot. The vehicle actually slows down and then downshifts even to give you a 1-mph increase at any speed. Everything stated above is driving on flat roads but driving this 2007 Saturn Outlook SUV AWD 3.6L 6cyl in hilly country is nothing less than tormenting. I did take it in for the transmission up-grade but I?m not sure if that made it worse. It just shifts into high gear when slowing down a little at low speeds to execute a turn and then throws your head back when the dead accelerator peddle finally reaches it?s responding point. I can?t say enough to express my dissatisfaction and I have owned this vehicle since April 2007. It took me some time to figure out the problem and it was too late to return it. I don?t have any issues with the seat arrangement or looks, which suit my needs. The only other problem is the re-circulating switch that has to be pushed every time the ignition or fan is turned off. I usually don?t remember to push it until we get a good whiff of polluted outside fumes. The A/C system air also smells like vomit or dog droppings when first turned on. The dealer did not address this problem when I took the vehicle in.

OUTSTANDING AND LOOKS GREAT

I have owned a lot of vehicles, which include new Cadis, Lincolns, Honda's and other. This Outlook is by far the nicest car I have ever owned! I have had people come up to me and ask me about it, and I am pleased to share how I fel with them. We get about 26 mPG on the highway

Room and Power

Have been looking at the Outlook for awhile, I have three kids and they can all sit comfortably in the second row. Plenty of room in the third row and a ton a cargo space when the rear seat is dropped down. Outlook has plenty of power to get onto the highway. Have been averaging 21 MPG with mixed city/highway driving. Hve had a problem when it rains, the rain collects on the rear hatch and when you open it, the rain pours off of the hatch and gets everything around it wet. Fuel gauge is sticking when it gets below a 1/4 tank and is parked in the driveway on an incline, I get the low fuel message. Saturn tells me they have a fix in the works but nothing yet.

What build quality?

ABS brake system makes clicking noise during self diagnosis at start up. Dealer says this is normal, VERY annoying. Front power seat rails have rough spot in track, dealer ordered in three sets of rails all were defective, replaced with rails from another new vehicle on their lot. Same problem now with those rails. Rear seat cushion does not latch properly. Dealer inspected other new Outlooks and they all did the same thing. Dealer says our is normal. Unacceptable !! Same lag as everybody else with the transmission. Have to manually downshift going up slight grade. Has been in the shop 12 days in 6 months. Lots of room and comfortable to drive. Good looks inside and out. Just VERY disappointed with small quality problems.

Wow!

I had a 2005 Saturn Relay and HATED IT!!! It had electical demons. However, I have owned 3 Saturns and this was the only car that gave me major problems... hence the reason they stopped making the Relays. But, my lease ended and I drove an Outlook and immediately fell in love! I have had it a couple of weeks and just took it on a long road trip and had no problems. It rode on the highway GREAT! Smooth, quiet and the kids loved looking at the airplanes flying over through the backseat sunroof. Would definataly recommend... actually insist getting this car for a family with kids!

Serious Transmission Problem

Overall my wife and I are pleased with our Saturn except for the fact that the vehicle rolls backwards when in drive when you release the brake on any kind of an incline. Initially this problem was just an annoyance until we travelled to the Roanoke Va. area where it is very hilly. This annoyance became a serious problem when you stop on a hill and take your foot off the brake to accelerate the vehicle rolls backwards possibly striking the vehicle behind you. Saturns response to this issue is that "This is a normal transmission operation as compared to like models." In our opinion this is an accident waiting to happen! I can't believe that General Motors could not have detected such a defect before releasing this vehicle!

"Smothes Ride Ever"

I love my new outlook. It is my first new vehical and I abousolutly love it.It is so smooth riding and you can't get a better gas mileage out of any other suv. I was kinda worried about the cost of gas but very impressed with the great gas mileage. My kids enjoy it every much too. I have teenagers so it is roomy enough for them and all of thier friends too.The comfort of the seats it great too,I love the lumbar support. I am pretty short too but am able to get in and out very easy unlike alot of tall vans or suv's. I feel very safe having the onstar with all the time too.I feel safe for my kids too with onstar because if we were in an accident and the driver was knocked out they can call for help with touch of a button. The rear air is working out real nice with the kids too ,now they can't say It's hot back here. Its also nice to have the rear windows to go all the way down.I would recommend this to anyone who wants a well built vehicle for the money.
