I bought the Scion XA after having a Toyoya Echo, and I realized that it was the best decision I have ever made...

Nice car, Good for young single person
I purchased this car for my daughter, she is 18 and senior in high school. It is about a year old and has 7000 miles on it now. My daughter loves it. I have drove it on a business trip approx. 500 miles and it was fine. Overall a nice car, good handling, and good gas mileage.

Sub standard to Toyota
I've owned my xA for last 5 months and I've had 4 trips to the dealership. The advertised 36-38 mpg on hwy is a faulse advertisement. Even after 14,500 miles, I'm only getting 30-33 on the hway. 25-28 on the street driving. I would not recommend this car to anyone.

Perfect for what we bought it for.
My wife makes a 70 mile round trip every day through a winding canyon with a 2000 ft elevation change. This car averages 43 mpg @ 55mph. We got the manual transmission for mountain driving and are pretty pleased with the ability to pull hills. My sister has the same car with an automatic transmission and says it's way underpowered. Buy the manual if you don't commute in stop and go traffic. This car is fun to drive and handles well on winding roads. There's some power to pass if you drop it in third and wrap it up to 5000 rpm. My favorites: Gas Mileage, styling (all around), roomy (I'm 6 ft), stereo, and ease of oil change.

VERY happy I gave this car a chance!
I really wanted the much-coveted Honda Fit, but the deposit and waiting list didn't sit well with me, so I started researching other small economy cars. One of the biggest selling points about the xA was that it had the option of Sirius radio. I have a 160+ mile round-trip commute, and satellite radio makes the commute much more tolerable. I love Sirius, HATE xm (xm is AWFUL, seriously), but the list of compact cars that Sirius is (factory) available on is very short. In fact, the Scions are pretty much it! At the dealership I was surprised by how many add-ons and options were available for this car. I was even more surprised by how driveable this car is. It's very nimble, and unlike another reviewer said, it does not take THAT long to get to 60mph. I have the manual, which helps, I'm sure. The engine is loud at higher rpms, and I wouldn't think of driving over 70 mph due to the loud engine. Acceleration is fine for the engine as well, but like I said, I do have the manual. Acceleration at higher speeds is very slow, though. The turning radius is excellent, as are the brakes; steering and handling are great for such a small car. It fits everywhere, which is great, but the interior is surpisingly roomy. Like I said, I have a long commute and this car is very comfy. The car sits high, which is nice. I'm not "ducking" to get into the car. That said, it looks closer to the ground. I don't know how they managed that, but the doors have a cool, deep look to them. Very stylish! Head and leg room are more than adequate. The dash is weird; all the gauges are in the middle, right above the controls. However, the controls are nice and big. My cruise control column is pretty much invisible behind the steering wheel and akwardly on the left side. I have no idea why Toyota didn't build the cruise control into the steering wheel like they did with the audio system. The sound system is WONDERFUL. I LOVE it! Despite the engine noise, I can hear the radio just fine. I also got the 15" wheels as an option, which I think makes the car look less econo-ish. Overall, I'm so happy with this car. It has turned out to be a very fun car to drive. It makes my commute much easier, plus I've been able to get 40 miles/gallon on the highway, so it's easy on the wallet, too!

more than what you'd expect
It's unrealistic to expect gobs of power and torque from a modest 1.5 liter engine. This IS NOT a performance car. Having said that, this car is geared PERFECTLY to make up for this fact. Takeoffs almost feel peppy, the handling is better than I would have expected, and the brakes are very responsive. The interior is solid, and it comes standard with CD and power everything. I have been getting a combined 35 MPG from mine. I drive my vette on the weekend, but the scion is my daiy driver... It can't be beaten for the 70+ mile round-trip to work. Cons - the windshield is at an awkward angle which seems to lead to constant bombardment by rocks. Very noisy, both in terms of road noise and in terms of the engine. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that you can't wring any significant power out of a 1.5 liter engine under 3,000 RPMs.

awesome
I bought my XA one week ago, and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! the gas mileage is perfect and the power under the hood is fine. I live in TX and have no problem keeping up with all of the 18-wheelers on the road. I enjoy driving again and would not hesitate to recommend this car to someone!

Just noise maker
Just noise maker I bought this vehicle 2 months back, it is the worst vehicle I had ever seen in life. I would have gone for Honda fit, unfortunately I test drive fit after getting this. Fit was really good. Not even comparable. Speed and pickup were really bad for Xa. It makes very hard sounds while acceleration, it will take around 15-20 to reach 60 miles. Very much upset with this. Highway mileage is around 28. Except seating height NOTHING IS GOOD in this car.

Delightful
This car is a delight to drive. It gets me from point A to point B in a fun and easy way that is always worth looking forward to. Compared to my previous Honda Civic, it handles better though it has a slightly smaller turning radius. This car isn't meant for power or long drives but it is peppy and will be reliable even on long trips. You must remember that it is a Toyota and the car has been around in Japan for over 5 years now. Scion offers pure pricing so there is no worry of having to bargain and deal. Driver seating is higher up more like mini-van style but don't take that the wrong way as it is much safer (higher point of view) and better for your body posture. The automatic transmission is smooth and I hear that the manual transmission is also quite wonderful especially for having fun in a small car. I find it easy to park in almost any spot and though the trunk is small, with the rear seats folded down, I have more than enough room to hold larger items and objects. If you are looking for power and high performance, look at a Lexus. If you're looking for a really fun car to drive with great gas mileage, and unique looks, this is a great car.
