1985 Chevrolet Sprint, not a common car you find everyday, but if you do, take time to talk to the one of a kind owner that drives one. These little old cars were built to take a beating, if you don't believe me watch some teens thrash on some on YouTube. They are not the best commuter cars unless your commute includes highway driving of more than 50 miles. Vintage commercials still hold truth to their bold statements made when they were new. 50 mpg highway is still a distant achievement rarely if ever reached by current automakers today in 2019. The secret is the low weight, although sacrifices are made to get that low weight. The main ones include a minimalistic chassis, no airbags, and not the best structural support. Which is quite important in the event of a crash. So if you live in a low populated area, with low population of large animals, and you do a lot of highway driving, you have got to get one of these relics as soon as possible. Not a complete chick magnet, but she may find your pride in your fuel economy attractive. Just sell it to her as since your saving so much on gas, you will have more to invest towards her, jewelry, flowers, ect. The biggest downside to owning one, is finding parts, that alone can be a challenge in itself. Then trusting a mechanic to do the work properly will be a interesting task as well. For first time drivers it is a great car as long as their standards are low, and they have the patience to learn how to drive a manual transmission. The insurance is cheap, at $2.50 a gallon they can fill up the tank on a twenty dollar bill, and unless the oil and fluids are not checked regularly and proper maintenance is followed through, there will never be any mechanical issues. Overall it's a great budget car, although they are very hard to come by, but usually in 2019 you can find really decent ones for under $2000. I was unable to tag this as the correct vehicle because the rarity of the Chevrolet Sprint, although a Pontiac Firefly, Geo Metro, and Suzuki Swift all share the same engine and most of the same parts, so they are essentially all the same car just with different badges.

I bought this for $400 in 2010 and have not had to put much in it since I owned it . just the normal -brakes/exhaust /tires .that is all I have done . I consistantly get around 40 mpg with the 5 speed 1.3 liter motor . it is actually a joy to drive and I can pass the gas stations . and when I do need gas I can wait a little bit until the fuel prices come down form their ever moving up and down prices(seems like daily moving prices).. I have about 138,000 miles on her but if I ever needed to get another car I would think I would get another swift ,although she runs great and smooth ./ it has a 10 gallon fuel tank and it seems that I can go forever on a tank . plus with the price of fuel it usually takes about 23.00 to fill and that helps alot ..

I have owned this car for 8 years and have truly enjoyed it. It has plenty of power at higher RPM's, yet consistently gets 35 MPG plus. The recarro style bucket seats are comfortable, and with the stiff suspension it handles well too. It is easy to work on with most parts easily accessible. With 4 wheel disc brakes, it stops well also. It was a competitor to the Honda CRX. Because it is a hatchback, it will haul more than would be expected. Some won't believe this, but I hauled a 40 gallon hot water heater still in the box. It was tight, but it fit. The only negatives are: Tires are hard to keep balanced unless using Michelins, and 5 speed does not like hard shifts into 2nd. Some may worry about safety since car is very small and did not have air bags. Overall a very well made little car and good quality and reliability.
