Great car so far
I bought this corolla LE used (one year old) and have driven a mix of highway and stop and go city (Los Angeles Area) driving. I compare this car to my previous car: 97 Honda Civic LX. The corolla has superior comfort. The Civic got better gas mileage. I used to get 35 city, 42 highway with the manual trans civic. However, I can only get 27 city and 35 highway with the automatic corolla. I feel like the Honda engine felt stronger and more solid running to me. Corolla is a great car but in six years I will go back to Honda.

(I'm) still in one piece after accident
I received the Corolla CE in July 2007 as a present. At the time it had 19,000 mi. It's not anything special, but it was very functional and fuel efficient, plus I loved the styling - so cute! I was getting great gas mileage with it, about up to 35 highway and between 25-30 (small) city. I noticed that the wheels tended to veer left, which is kind of annoying but not a big deal. About 8 months after I got it in July07, the electronics on the interior seemed to have blown a fuse and was all messed up, but the headlights continued working. Power windows would be nice, the windows would sometimes creep down while driving long distances on the highway and sometimes they would start whistling, and it would be unsafe to try to reach over to any other window except driver's to roll it back up. Besides that, it performed pretty good. It doesn't have much power, but its still a good value. It has as much power as it needs. Anyway I'd like to point out that I was in a car accident last week in the Corolla, was rear-ended at a high speed, and although the car is totaled, I give it an A+ for safety. After I was plowed into (didn't even see it coming) I was able to maneuver the car away from other vehicles immediately after impact, and my passenger and I walked away without a scratch and barely sore necks. That said, I think I've decided to stick with Corolla and get a new one for my next vehicle, but this time I'm getting an LE. As a young female college student, I would say that this car fits all my considerations from safety, to being low-maintenance, reliable, so cute & stylish, and easy on the wallet at the gas station. Stereo's not that bad either.

Good pep, but the handling is subpar
While the gas mileage is excellent, there is a price to pay for that; the car gets blown all over the place even in moderate winds. The car is very comfortable, with good ergonomics, yet road noise is quite high and the steering feel like a stick in the mud. My old 88 accord and 86 madza 323 both had much better road feel and accuracy. The suspension could be firmer too. Toyota apparently took note of this too as their upscaled XRS model has a completely different steering rack and column. While overall the corolla is a decent car, just don't put any loose objects in the truck as it is not double lined. Thus, anything contacting the insides walls of the trunk will severely dent and break the paint on outside rear fender wells. Reasonable go in the snow (with good snow tires that is)

No Pizzaz, But Gets The Job Done
I've owned a 2006 Corolla CE for about 18 months and have over 18k miles on it. For what the Corolla is designed to do, it does adequately well. It's no Porsche or Lexus by any means, but for an economy car, it gets me where I want to go with great gas mileage. The CE is somewhat spartan with its hard plastic interior and surprisingly high road noise. With the cheesy wheels and tires on the CE (they are larger and more substantial on the LE and Sport) the handling is ok - not great. I bought the boring but reliably competant automatic for my wife's benefit - I'm sure a 5 speed manual would have been more interesting and fun. In my opinion, the CE is the only Corolla that really makes sense. The LE is the Luxury Edition - I mean think about it, a luxury Corolla? The whole idea of the Corolla is for economy. And the Sport model is really nothing more than an LE with a spoiler and body cladding (at least the discontinued for 2007 XSE had the hot engine). Again, my 2006 Toyota Corolla CE is competant and does everything that it was designed to do adequately well. It gets me where I'm going with minimal fuel, preventive maintenance every 6 mos/5k miles (the Toyota maintenance schedule is about as simple and fool proof as can be) which is nothing more than mostly oil changes and tire rotations, and so far great reliability. With that said, my 2006 Corolla CE seems to be personality challenged. I've owned several vehicles over the years, and this is probably the least fun and most boring vehicle that I've driven yet. I was hoping that after 18 months and 18k miles of ownership that the car would grow on me and I could somehow bond with it. No luck in that area. I understand that the Corolla is designed to be an economy car, but does it have to be so dull? It's very hard to assign any personality or character traits to this car. It's nothing more than an appliance on 4 wheels; yes it gets the job done, but with no pizzaz or enthusiasm. That's a shame, because I've owned an '89 Corolla SR5 (the last model year Corolla used a carburetor) that was a blast to drive. Seems like Toyota has designed all of the fun and personality out of the '06s. Despite the low fun quotient, with gasoline pushing $3.50 a gallon, it makes sense to own a 2006 Corolla CE. Just don't expect to have much fun while driving it.

Free at last
I gave up truck driving.... my old '94 F150 started to leak oil. The awesome inline 6 tractor engine did me well for 13 years. With gas headed up an up and world oil supplies getting tight, the Toy Corolla 06 LE has made me feel like driving more again. It is very zoom zoom... even great for an old timer like me that needs to travel between golf courses alot for my only exercise. Toyota is better than Honda !

This is the best car I ever have owned
My Toyota Corolla is the best car I ever have owned. I purchased the car brand new in September 2004. My car has a manual transmission. As long as I drive the car at 65 miles per hour or less on a freeway, the gasoline mileage is excellent (35 to 40 miles per gallon). The car runs very smoothly. As long as the car gets the recommended service and the owner treats the car with respect, the car should last for quite some time with well over 100,000 miles.

Pleasantly Surprised
I've owned six cars in my quarter of a century on Earth, and of all the vehicles I have driven, the Corolla is by far the most practical automobile I have ever encountered. Coming out of a 2001 Honda Accord EX-V6 coupe, I felt that acquiring a Corolla would be a considerable step down...boy, was I mistaken. I'm quite the driving enthusiaist (I bought the car in Feb. 06 brand new and in Nov. 06 I reached 30K miles) and I have to have a car that can perform...but on a limited budget. Considering the reputation the Corolla has, its performance is rather surprising. Acceleration off the line is not as bad as one would expect, and depending on how you drive, you can condition the car to actually provide more than the estimated manufacturer's HP and torque ratings. On the highway, passing can be accomplished without much worry (just remember it is only a 4 cylinder rated at 122 hp, so don't expect to take out five cars and a semi before the no passing zone). It handles curves better than the average vehicle, but it does have a higher than average center of gravity for a small car, so on excessive turns the body lean may be a bit pronounced. Despite the body lean, the car rights itself well and is easy to maneuver (high performance tires can also assist in achieving more precise maneuvering). In comparison to my ex-Honda, the Corolla is shadowed by the Honda's power, handling, and features. On the flip side, the Corolla, an excellent value, provides better fuel economy and is amazingly agile. After driving this Corolla for just under a year, I have come to this conclusion: 1) I will never buy anything larger than a mid-sized sedan, and 2) I will keep this car until it is completely paid off. The Toyota Corolla proves that it is indeed cool to be practical. Take it from me...the "young whippersnapper" that should be driving the obnoxious and gaudy muscle car...but instead settled for the sensible choice. I couldn't be any happier with my Corolla.

toyota tops
For performance, handling, reliability and quality you cannot do better than a toyota. I've owned toyotas exclusively since purchasing a celica in 1972. They've all gone 10 years+, 100-200,000 miles on original engine. Great cars!

True Value for Money
I purchased the Toyota Corrolla about 2 months back. Though its too early to write about reliability etc, one thing that awes me about the car is the fuel consumption. I am getting 31 MPG in the city with the Air Conditioner on at all times. On highways i am getting an MPG of 35 +. The handling is not bad either....true value for money.. This is a great plus in these days of high gas prices.

Outstanding car! The 2006 Corolla S (manual transmission) is great on gas, has a nice body style, and is extremely reliable.
