100K miles and still going...

I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. It is so refine that I do not mind the "not so athletic" V6 engine that is premium dino juice thirsty. However, it has a plethora of issues that call for owners attention. It is leaking after rain/snow in few places--fixed 3 out of 4. It is secreting oil around cam adjusters and head gasket--till warranty ran out dealership was able to convince me it is "oh-so-typical" of this car, then after 50K miles I was told it should be fixed ASAP for a lot of money. Driver's door lock malfunctions and window switch has brain of its own. During cold weather moisture condenses in engine oil turning it into mayo. It is expensive to own but very pleasant to drive (and nope, I am not a pistonhead everything on my car is stock, I would not dare to modify anything).

Safe car and reliable too

My 2002 Passat with 4Motion is a really fine car. They don't make them like this anymore...I know. I test drove a 2008 with 4Motion and it didn't have the same qualities as the older model. And - VW now forces you to buy their CC if you want all wheel drive. Not a very attractive car in my opinion. My car is a solid, comfortable riding car. Great on long trips and the all wheel drive feature really helps me feel more comfortable driving in the mountains. I would strongly recommend this car.

Great Sedan with a Sporty Feel

I love the 2002 Passat with 4Motion. When I was test driving cars, my husband discouraged me from looking at VWs because he had a bad experience with an old Rabbit. Once I convinced him to drive it - he said this is the one! After doing some basic consumer research we purchased the car and it's been the best car I've ever owned. The 4Motion/AWD lets you hug the road at faster speeds and it has that sedan quality that allows you to drive clients around in comfort. Love the blue lights, the interior space (even the back seat is roomy), and the power of the engine.

Best Car!

I have over 100k miles on my 2002 Passat & plan on (hopefully)keeping it for another 100k miles. This car shows like a high end luxury vehicle with lots of features included. The car has great pickup even with a 4 cylinder. It rides smoothly, is very quiet in the cabin and gets decent gas mileage. The back seat & trunk are very spacious. I have nothing bad to say about this car. I am a VW driver for life!

Excellent Car- Excellent Value

I have always owned BMW's and bought a used 02 Passat because I was getting a great deal on it. Best Money I ever spent. The car handles very well and gets great gas mileage. I love the features of the car as well- heated seats, excellent Monsoon stereo, and the awesome BLUE lights at night on the dash. The only thing I have had to do to the car maintenance wise was replace the temperature sensor( which I hear is common). I get my oil changed at regular intervals and have no problems with the car! It's a very solid car and a great value.

Almost love...

We bought this station wagon after an accident totaled our extremely reliable '95 Saturn. We love the Passat's size, we like the drive, we like the features. The pick up is a bit slow to react, but the power is there if you wait for it. What we don't like is that over the last 2.5 years it has gone in for $500-$750 worth of work to the cooling system every six months like clockwork. The dealer proved impossible to work with; life was a little better once the warranty was up and we took it to an independent mechanic - but he still hasn't worked miracles.

screaming wagon

the mustang full of boys wanted to race the civic on the other side of me. they yelled back and forth extolling their cars virtues. The light changed, my W8 wagon hooked up all for tires and at the next light i put my windows down so both cars filled with kids could see my kid's car seats in the back. I had to wait awhile for them to get to the light but they eventualy got there. Best wagon I've ever owned. bought it for my wife, drove it every chance I got. Can't say the same for her new allroad.

Great car, great driving experience

I had a Honda and Mazda previously loved them, but the driving experience I've had from the Passat has been an adventure thus far, hugs the road, quite impressed with cornering and the engine is amazingly quiet and smooth. Interior is a beauty to behold especially at night, just have to keep yourself from beaming when driving. Great car to own.
