Volvo

Volvo is headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, and is a subsidiary of Chinese automaker Geely. Volvo's name is synonymous with safety; it pioneered features like three-point safety belts, rear-facing child seats and side-impact airbags. The company still ranks among the safest brands, though several other automakers now achieve comparable overall safety scores.

Volvo's SUVs include the subcompact XC40, compact XC60 and three-row XC90; the latter two are also available as upscale plug-in hybrids. On the passenger-car side, Volvo has ended production of all of its existing gas-engine models for the U.S. market; the last are the V60 and the V90 Cross Country wagons, which were discontinued after an abbreviated 2026 model year.

Even though Volvo spun off its Polestar brand as a separate electrified-vehicle marque, Volvo itself also offers a lineup of all-electric SUVs. The roster includes the subcompact EX30 and EX40, along with the three-row mid-size EX90.
