A more powerful engine, leather trimmed seats, four-wheel antilock brakes (ABS) and larger dimensions set the Acura Legend two-door coupe off from acompact Accord. That, plus $10,000. The Legend coupe we drove had a base priceof $25,718.

The Accord LXi sedan is built on a 102.4-inch wheelbase and is 178.5inches long; the figures are 108.7 and 189.4 inches, respectively, on an AcuraLegend sedan.

The Acura we drove is powered by a 2.7-liter, 24-valve, fuel-injected V-6 engine teamed with five-speed. Front and rear stabilizer bars and gaspressurized shocks gave it a softer ride than the Accord and the ABS brakingsystem provided for surer stops.

Intermittent wipers, electric rear window defroster, heated power doormirrors, mud guards and an adjustable steering column are standard items that are optional on the smaller Accord LXi.
