A Rare Ride--The disappearing Hardtop Convertible
November 1, 2018
This car is one of the last of its kind-the hardtop convertible. Combines the joy of top-down driving with the feeling of safety and security of a real roof. You can't duplicate the solid feeling with a cloth roof, no matter how many layers or how well insulated. Sorry, Rolls-Royce. Together with the smooth power of a turbo-6, and you have a refined, comfortable car that can be used year round without penalties. Throw in another disappearing feature-the manual transmission, and you have a car with real future collector potential. Think about this combination of features. They just don't make them like this any more. Future convertible BMWs will be soft-top only. That leaves just the diminutive Mazda Miata, a great car to be sure, but too small for most of us. For the enthusiast, it's the best of all worlds. Once you enjoy top-down motoring in nice weather, you won't want to return to a fixed roof. Trust me on this.
