The best car for the money you can ever buy
I have been a Jaguar fanatic forever. I have several Jaguars, including an onyx white/champaign 2002 XJR. I now have 57,000 miles on her. This cat has everything to offer, power, luxury and an affordable price tag. One thing I LOVE about this car, is that when most people look at her, they see a beautiful big car. Almost everyone sees the XJR as the XJ8. Big, heavy, and not THAT fast. But when you put her in sport mode, and put the pedal down, she will leave ALOT of cars on the road today. Its fun to see the expressions on peoples faces as you blast away from them in a car that is twice the weight of their car! Not only do they have a great amount of power for such a car, but it comes with style, class, and elagance. Nothing speaks elagance like a Jaguar. The ride is stiffer than the standard XJ8, but its still ALOT better than most cars out there. One thing that suprised me about this car is the handling. You would not expect a car of this size to be able to handle a really tight curve almost as well as my miata, but she does!(not as good as my miata, but she really truly handles well). Jaguars have a bad reputation for their electronics, and reliability. This is not the case in these cars. If you maintain them as reccomended by Jaguar, they will last a lifetime. Its not that common for something to fault, but if it does, fix it right away! Dont be lazy. Rust is another thing that Jaguar has a bad reputation for. These cars do not rust like they used to. They do have one trouble spot that I know of, and thats in the corners of the rear window. If you drive it in the rain, dry off that rust spot, to try to prevent it. The rest of the car should never get rust. When you buy a Jaguar, you basicaly are joining a club. Other jaguar owners will park next to you, because they know that Jaguar owners care for their car, so they dont have to worry about door dingeys, if they see your keys, they will start a conversation with you, they will smile at you, wave, it's an awesome experience, and I reccomend it 100%. Cared for, they last
Bought from dealership owner at 2,220 miles. It’s at 350,000 4/22. Love this car. Always best of required care. 26 mpg at 80 mph. Issues today. Oil issues and tech issues. Might be at a crossroad. May will tell. 400,000 not a goal but 2024 is. Use is 6-7,000/yr. We’ll see.

Great experience!
Great experience! They listened to what I was looking for, and helped me to get it! The test drive was perfect, we must have driven it for 30 minutes for me to make sure it was what I liked. Easy transaction after I decided to pull the trigger. Trade in was easy, and was never "pushed" into buying anything. I think we were all done in a matter of 3 hours, which I've never had that experience at a car dealership!!
Velvet gloved iron fist
I now have 53000 miles on my 2002 XJR, it has been in the shop twice for minor repairs, once for a new battery, and once when the sun roof slder plate stuck back and did not come out. I change the oil every 3000 miles and have had no major timing chanin or wear problems. I did modify the exhaust to open it up, and gained about 10 hp on the dyno. The car is a great highway cruiser, nd can surprise some of the 5 series BMW's as well as a lot of the Asian cars. I would buy another, and hope to get a new XKR in the next year.

Made a long distance purchase.
Made a long distance purchase. Was very leary buying a car that I was unable to test drive. But Jordan pretty accurately described the car and even offered to help set up an independent person to evaluate it. Came across as a reputable business that I would work with again.
Great classic Jag

Be sure you understand what your getting
This is a long term ownership review of a vehicle purchased off-lease for just under $30,000 in 2004. It had around 42,000 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase. First, I'd like to say I love this vehicle. It is a smooth, powerful head turning ride that draws comments from all quarters. The downside is the inevitable cost of ownership. If you're not able or ready to anti-up to the service bay for the routine maintenance, think again. Jaguar is not very forgiving of lack of maintenance. The car will let you know when it is ready...you get warned and have time to deal. But if you decide not to act, you will be doing so when it might not be the best time for you. One event I'm rather dissappointed about is the instrument cluster going out at 48,000 miles. From what I understand, there was a MF defect that had the gas peddle or some other moving part in that area rubbing a connector. Once it went out - whammo -$1,000 for a new one. This should be a recall item, because it is unsafe to not be able to see what speed you are going, once it goes out. In any case, another somewhat expensive maintenance item is the brakes. You must replace all the rotors every time you get a brake job. That's another hearty $1000. ($250 per tire) Some of the hoses for the cooling system are very difficult to get to, so having them replaced is very expensive. This cost me over $1,400 when the car only had 60k mi. The next big whammy was the 90K scheduled maintenance, which includes the catalytic converters. In California, this is going to knock you back for $2,400 bucks just for the converters. Then you have another $1,200 bucks for the tune up. My point is: Yes, this is a great car! But it is not a cheap car to maintain. So when you decide to buy one, vet it very carefully... Brakes? New Tires? ($1,200) Other maint.? This car is my daily driver. For the last five years I've driven it over 60k miles and have really enjoyed it. I also intend to keep it as long as possible, if not just to make use of the extra investments made along the way. So, if you like to travel in style, have more power than most and can afford the "Jag Tax", go for it. As long as you go in with your eyes open, you'll not be dissappointed.
