This car is my all time favorite vehicle and I am very sad they no longer make them. High level of luxury, just like a Cadillac (it is built on a Cadillac base) but with an Oldsmobile shell. This car sails down the highway, is excellent for around town driving, but excels on road trips. Smooth, tight, efficient, wonderful car to drive.

I was fed up with the same 4 square...look what we can do for you...I will tell and sell you a dream if you leave today with a car and have buyers remorse because you spent to much BS. Not here at Silver Eagle. Looked at a couple and Aldo (our salesman) was straight honest about what still needed to be done or what they thought they needed to do/look at. Didn't want to send us home with a car that we would call them about a motor or transmission problem. Not how they do business. They helped us figure different ways we could finance. Didn't blow up our phone when we left to think about our decision. I had nothing but a great experience. Answered all questions we had. Followed up to make sure we were truly happy. Picked up a brand new 2002 4.0 Aurora back in autumn 2001. Black with dark gray interior and 17" chrome wheels. Loaded expect for navigation because the Bose stereo was only available w/out the navigation. She's still going strong and has been a reliable car. The fuel pump failed once, and I've replaced the rack and pinion twice as well as the subframe. The front end and rack and pinion issue could have been from the pot holes and rotting roads. There were issues with the weather seals leaking water but its fixed now. It also leaks a little oil. But overall its been a GREAT car, very luxurious with great Bose stereo and killer exhaust note from the 4.0 V8. The only performance gripe is that bigger brakes would be nice. It gets HORRIBLE 12.5 mpg in city with regular fuel, slightly better milage using recommended but optional premium gas. If you cruise at about 45mph in 4th gear the engine runs about 1500 rpm and returns over 30mpg even with the v8. But if you drive it hard it sucks fuel fast as the v8 roars and you can basically watch the gas gauge drop. The gated shifter is fantastic for dropping into second gear for passing or going up hills fast. The handling is great for a full size 2002 model, although it would be better if it was rwd. The torque from the v8 is less than optimal to run through the front end, and torque steer can be vicious under full throttle on wet pavement or going uphill - it yanks allover the place. But on dry and flat pavement the torque steer isn't too bad.

Bought my 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora new in early 1997. It is always covered and garage kept when not in use. As of the date of this review it has just over 41,000 miles. The exterior has a great aerodynamic design and I think it still has the look that can compete with the designs of todays vehicles. The only thing I wish was available for the exterior is fog or aux. lamps. The interior was very well designed and is very comfortable on long trips. The audio and climate control systems were well thought out and work flawlessly (at least mind does). The seats with their leather skins and heat system make nice on those cold driving days and nights. On one vacation, and staying near the posted speed limit I obtained an average of 28.3 miles per gallon, combined highway/city . Needless to say I was very surprised with the mpg I got on a 4.0L V-8 engine. It also has very good acceleration and smooth performance. The transmission shifts smoothly even under high acceleration. With that said, I could not tell the difference in the "normal" or "performance" modes on the transmission shift column. I do like the where the battery is located, under the rear seat. My first battery lasted 13 years before I had to replace it. This is most likely because it is not near a high heat area such as the engine compartment. The only negative for me is that you need to used the higher priced Premium gasoline. Although it is not a supercar, I and wish it had more HP, I do love my Aurora and would not sell it for any money. As a matter of fact I would like to buy another 1997 if I could find one in as good of condition as mine! (mine is in mint, but not show room condition)
