I bought my 2001 RAV4 in 2010. It had 100,000 miles. I have put 125,000 more miles on it.. it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I can still get 25 to 27 miles to the gallon. Doesn’t use any oil. The seats are very versatile. Can recline be removed or flip forward. It’s got a generous cargo area. And has been extremely reliable. The reliability and versatility outweighs the lackluster power. I paid 10,000 for it and could probably sell it for 10,000. Great car, and I’m hanging onto it. It’s now 24 years old.

This vehicle is fuel efficient. Very reliable. My daughter loves driving it. This vehicle’s size is perfect for a teenagers first car. I definitely recommend this vehicle for everyday practical use.

I bought my 98 Rav4 2 years ago just for fun. I got it for a great price from a guy that needed to sell it. I'm an old grease xxxxxx and do most of my care maintenance. The exterior is in great shape and interior is super nice. It had the original suspension parts and a bad right front wheel bearing. I replaced the inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links, CV axles, lower ball joints, struts, shocks and the bearing. It's a blast to drive and with 215K for miles this one will last. The previous owner had a timing belt and tune up 12,000 miles ago so that is a big bonus. I love the 16" wheels as it sets up off the ground just right! Well made as Toyotas from the mid 1990's to about 2005 were bullet proof. I have a 2000 Avalon with 315K and it looks and tuns like new. Also a 2002 Tundra with only 95K and also looks and runs new. I will be too old to drive when I wear these out and have no interest in a new car. Love my fleet!

I currently have a 1998 RAV4 AWD. I paid very little for it. I saved it from the crusher. It just needed some love. I'm the second owner and it currently sits at 244k miles. Original engine and transmission. I had to replace the rear end but a used one was $150. I'll keep this vehicle until I can no longer maintain it. I personally don't have much faith in the newer models of this vehicle and feel that this year of the RAV4 will last decades longer.

Never loved a car more than this one. Bought her 12 years ago and drove her down to Mexico, she's been ripping around the beaches and dirt roads down here ever since. Now with over 200,000miles on her she's definitely a little beat up aesthetically but is still running no problem.. biggest repairs in the last 12 years was power steering and the computer, but I was able to find those parts and keep her going. I will drive her until one of us dies. Bought a newer 2012 RAV4 for work purposes a few years ago but hated it...the newer ones suck on dirt roads, are all plastic and just all around feel fragile compared to my '99 Rav4

The first-gen RAV4 is such an amazing car all-around. I've got a 2000, white, cosmetically modified. It's very sluggish, but it's not meant to be quick. If you want a quick first-gen, swap a 3S-GTE in, easy. The 3S-FE that came with these things was bulletproof. Only had to change the water pump and a few metal & rubber odds and ends so far due to my specific car sitting and aging from the previous owners. AMAZING car.

This vehicle was reliable above and beyond any expectations. I purchased it new and it lasted nearly 23 years and traveled over 439,000 miles with the original engine and standard transmission. Normal maintenance was performed religiously with no major repairs required.

I had a chevy half ton for years until I bought a 1996 with some mechanical problems, it took less than 2 whole days to rebuild the front end suspension. AC didn't work either, but a can of refrigerant did the trick. The engine is gutless but with the gears it gets out of its own way fine. I loved it so much I had to get an awd 1997 model also with a 5 speed. They're fantastic cars, start and run like a clock, all the little accessories work, and almost all mechanical problems can be dealt with a single day of time. It can carry people and stuff, tow a light trailer, it’s as versatile as an SUV but built and drives like a tall corolla, so it fits almost anywhere. I hope to keep my 97 for many more years. 26-31MPG too

Bought this car for wife. It was the new style in 2001, which we loved. Traveled to Yellowstone, Montana, Wyoming , Utah and Nevada two months later. Comfortable. Today, car is going strong with 250,000 miles. Did have to replace transmission at 165,000. Having a few brake issues now. Otherwise wonderful experience.

I have a 5door '98 that I kept in fairly original condition with regular maintenance & part-time winter 4wd use (a '09Yaris for daily & an mr2-s for summer). Will qualify for collector plate status here (BC) come 2023 (soon!) meaning low insurance & can be covered all year round. 240k(kms) still going strong with just fluids, brakes & belts replaced. Lots of fa ebook groups for parts & friendly advice. Ill keep this & mr2-s forever for grandson to enjoy when everyone else will be on AI-autonomously boring vehicles!

Picked up a 96 jdm manual 4 door 4x4 rhd for postal work in 2023. 61k mikes on it and super clean in all categories. This car is a breath of freash air to drive in the modern era. Its just does what its supposed to do and nothing else. Its so simple but so very well made. It has a certain sound mechanical feel that you cant get on the best modern vehicles due to the amount of electronics in between you and the vehicle. Fun to drive in the manual configuration even though the engine is nothing special, more so in 2023, but it is known to be reliable. Even so thiers plenty of torque on tap in most situations and well timed shifts can keep you in the top of the powerband if thats youd thing. 10/10 best car ive ever driven, smile the whole time I drive
