I've owned this vehicle 2019-2023 (and counting). I'm 70yrs old and can say this is the best car I've ever owned. Performance, comfort and styling are 5.0. Most in my age group don't understand the Golf R until they get to drive it.

Enjoy everything about this car except the terrible ride. Overall spring-rate is great for the track but not a normal street or highway. Looks cool but rattles your eyeballs even when driven gently. We've owned 3 GTIs since '87 and enjoyed all except for this ride issue. It also causes the sunroof screen to vibrate open as you drive.

Short Story: These guys are the real deal and exemplify what used car dealerships should be. Long Story: Myself (fellow salesman 7+ years) and my father (mechanic 30 years) are probably the most difficult customers to deal with when it comes to buying cars. Yes, every dealer has some sort of "fees" (certification/documentation), but BOTH were lower than the local BMW dealership as I have both quotes in front of me as I am writing this. (In reference to the few negative reviews): If you cannot figure out that "$2,000 down" or "$2,000 trade-in" will show you a different sales price than the bottom line of the vehicle, y'all need to do more homework. Volkswagen did a great job refining the MK8 GTI. Key points -One of the best handling FWD cars mainly due to the LSD, XDS and suspension refinement. -Very smooth power deliver almost 0 turbo lag. - 40th anniversary has to be the best value purchase as it comes standard with DCC and IQ lightings which are only available on the highest trim. The negatives include: -The infotainment can be improved wireless android and apple car play need to be standard. Can't set your phone properly on the wireless charger when the phone is attached to the wire. - Compared to the MK7 the coin holder and the sliding storage below the driver sear is missing. -Unable to disable auto start and stop feature permanently as restores to default on every time you start the vehicle.

Gobs of low end torque makes it so easy to drive the GTI, and the 6-speed manual transmission is so much nicer than my wife's 5-speed Golf. It handles really well, and, the cabin is pretty quiet and the car is very stable even at speeds above 100 mph. I have the base model with 17-inch wheels which provide a pretty comfortable ride overall. I wouldn't get the 18-inch wheels unless they are accompanied by the dynamic chassis control. I think the ride would be too stiff without it. I'm glad I didn't get the Autobahn trim which is a lot more money. I sometimes think about the Rabbit edition, which was great value, but I didn't like the black wheels or the colour choices. Overall, I absolutely love this car, and I've had no problems with it in 7 months of ownership. One caveat on that....I don't push the car close to its limits very often, and, that may be why I've had no issues.

I have owned this 2016 Golf R manual since December, 2015. My previous car was a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3, a great hot hatch in it's own right. Right away I knew I had to tune the Golf R to make it feel faster than the Speed 3. APR Stage 1 accomplished that in spades. Not satisfied, I went Stage 2 which made the car absolutely bonkers (I did have to upgrade the clutch to a Southbend Stage 3 racing clutch). I have had three years on the Stage 2 and have had zero problems with it. Unrelated issues have included rear differential oil leak, window switch modulation, and misfiring due to bad plugs and coils. All except the latter were fixed under warranty. There is also a problem with the backlighting of the speedo/tach/fuel/coolant temp gauge that hasn't been fixed but other displays are fine. The car at just under 54K miles remains a blast to drive and very easy to live with.

Bought used golf R at 100k miles. Currently needs new struts dcc (3000), water pump 3rd time (2500), and walnut blasting (500). Maintenance is not cheap on these cars and they have known repeated issues(water pump). I have the DSG stage 1 car is wicked fast. Like embarrass a mustang 5.0 hang with and m5/m3, gap an sti or focus rs. Seriously one of the quickest cars out there in a straight line. But has no soul,interior is Uber quiet (can’t hear exhaust), dsg is great for up shifts but has a definite lag on downshifts. Suspension is awful especially with 19’s crashes and booms over everything passengers will jump, not good for daily driving on anything but the best roads. Brakes are phenomenal along with pedal feel and honestly will stop on a dime. It’s not true and as it is FWD until slip is detected but it rips. In my opinion even though it is way faster,brakes better, fender audio best I’ve heard, the Wrx is way more fun ! If you are ready for expensive repair bills and checking your fluids all the time buy a VW.

I owned a 2019 Golf R and recently traded for a new 2024 Golf R. My 2019 was a 6 speed manual, but I’ve finally gave in and bought the 2024 with the automatic. I always loved shifting, but getting a little older so thought it was time. Love my Golf R……GolfR comes with all the options I’d ever want standard, so, the price may seem high, hit you get everything you probably want standard, no options required .

I love my VW Beetle! It's adorable and the color combination- chef's kiss. It picks up speed nicely and I find mine to be pretty reliable. It needs a little TLC if you buy it used, but it's definitely worth it. Plus, it can double as a fun summer car if you have a convertible. Buy a VW! :))
