(rock music) Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder from cars.com. I'm at the Detroit Auto Show right now with the best selling model of any kind in the country. It's the F-150 pickup truck from Ford. Now, it has been redesigned for 2009.
The last time was redesigned, 2004, they adopted some of the elements from the F-250 Super Duty line. Now, they've pretty much taken the bold, squared off front end of the Super Duty and they're using it here too. Kind of looks like a truck in a truck suit. There are now seven trim levels up from six. Higher than the previous high one is the platinum edition, which comes with all sorts of additional features, like powered running boards and really nice materials, both outside and inside. Now, the interior materials have improved in the F-150. The leather cloud dashboard looks really good. Some of this foam metal is not my favorite thing in any truck and this one it's so-so, it's not great. In the market today, interior quality is like the new battleground, so even though this was a truck, they have to get the interior right. The work continues for crew cab backseat space. This might be bigger than it needs to be. With the seat raised like this, there is a perfectly flat floor, not just a kind of flat floor. And there's so much room in here. As Ford says, you could put something, like a plasma TV in here. It gives you more room, just a little bit more reason to have a backseat this big. And with the addition of some changes to the engine and a six speed automatic, in some cases, the fuel economy has gone up one mile per gallon. It's an improvement across the line for the model. It doesn't sound like a lot, but that's pretty good for a pickup truck. Over the years, they've actually gotten worse in a lot of ways. And also, come 2010, there are gonna be some new powertrains that Ford says is gonna make things even better. <v Narrator>For additional information on this car or any other, go to cars.com and our blog, KickingTires.
