(upbeat music) Hi, I'm Joe Wiesenfelder of cars.com. Behind the scenes of the 2009 Chicago auto show, I'm here with the Chrysler 200C concept. You might've seen the 300C out on the road.
This one is just a concept car, but it's gotten a lot of attention because it looks so good. This could be the look of an upcoming midsize car, but it's more than just that. It's an electric car, what's called a range, extended electric car, it'll go 40 miles on a battery charge. You plug it in at night and there's an onboard generator to keep you going if you run out of juice. Basically what we're talking about here is it's Chrysler's version of the Chevy Volt. Chevy says they're gonna have theirs out by the end of 2010. Now, if you can't tell it's gorgeous in here, this is very much a concept car, fantastical stuff, you know, aluminum and other materials you would never have in the real thing, but a lot of stuff that you might see someday, there's a fully functional touchscreen control here where basically everything is a touch screen, but it looks like a button. You can grab a menu thing here, move it around. You've got your navigation. It gives you basically everything you get in different controls on a regular car. In this one area, you just have to change menus and then there are some down here too. There's some personalization stuff. You can pull up navigation, you can pull up some photos. This is not my beautiful wife. I don't know who any of these people are. What's also interesting is you can control a lot of this stuff with your iPhone, like opening the windows and such, maybe remote start and because your iPhone is talking to the G3 network and so is the car. it doesn't matter how far you are. You're not trying to talk directly to the car with your iPhone. So even if you're far away, you can start it up. It's pretty cool. That's not a very realistic interior for an actual product, this is a concept, but the idea of an electric car or a range extended electric car from Dodge Chrysler or Jeep is not out of the question. The group that this comes from Envi, which is short for environmental, was formed in 2007, to determine how quickly they could get an electric car to market. There are two Jeeps, the Patriot, the Wrangler. This is a Chrysler town and country that are similar to these. And they say they will have something before the end of 2010. <v Narrator>For additional information on this car or any other, go to cars.com and our blog Kicking Tires.
