(upbeat music) The problem with windshield wiper blades is you don't think about them until you need them. And that isn't always the best time to replace them. Here's a quick guide on how to replace your blades and how wiper blades differ.
You may recognize this because it's the oldest type of a wiper frame. Typically, these allow you to remove and replace just the rubber squeegee part which is the most cost effective replacement. These work really well in most conditions but if you live in a wintry region, this claw type structure can collect ice and leave whole segments unwiped. One alternative is the dedicated winter blade which is a similar design but it has this rubber sheath over it and third is the single beam type which is low profile, it looks better, it doesn't collect ice very easily. The difference with these alternatives is you have to replace the whole piece, not just the squeegee part. Now presumably replacing the blade should be a do it yourself endeavor but there are a lot of different systems and some were very tricky. The simplest ones, you just pinch and pull others have a very clear button that you can see. The trickier ones may hide a tab completely out of sight but don't sweat it. Your mechanic can handle this for you or most national auto parts chain stores will send someone out to the parking lot to help you install the blades you just purchased. To be safe, replace your blades each spring and fall and don't forget the rear one. (upbeat music)
