. January has been a rough month so far both for major Ford recalls and for vehicles with loose components potentially flying off. Proof of each is in the latest safety missive from the Blue Oval, which features approximately 1.9 million Explorer SUVs being recalled for A-pillar trim.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2011-19 Explorers. The issue is with the exterior A-pillar trim’s retention clips, which may not be properly engaged, allowing the trim to detach. Such trim can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
For the fix, dealers will inspect and replace the trim, as necessary, for free. The automaker will notify owners March 13, but those with further questions in the meantime can call Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 24S02), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
