Finally! Someone is writing about hydrogen vehicles with a sense of reality. Dan Vegano, my new hero, writes for USA Today and explains how and why 2020 is a conservative estimate for all of us to be driving around in hydrogen-powered cars.

He’s not talking up expensive hydrogen prototypes by Honda and GM as “almost here” or as political ammunition. He explains that it will take a huge undertaking by not only automakers but the government, public and energy companies to make a hydrogen infrastructure work by 2020.

One bright spot for hydrogen hopefuls out there is that since the government released its last study in 2002 — estimating a 2023 timeframe — hydrogen technology has greatly advanced. Heck, there weren’t hundreds of hydrogen prototypes running around back then.

So far, hydrogen-powered cars are fuel for future thoughts (USA Today)
