An all-new Volkswagen Beetle convertible will go on sale early next year, according to the automaker. It will be the first time that a convertible has appeared in the Beetle lineup since the 2010 model year. That was the last year of the New Beetle, the long-in-the-tooth first-generation model.

The Beetle convertible will be available in the same powertrain options found on the coupe: a 2.5-liter inline-five-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a 2.0-liter clean-diesel four-cylinder.

Volkswagen will reveal more details about the model later this year; we assume it will debut at an auto show.
