Kia sales executive Tom Loveless told reporters in Detroit on Wednesday that both updated cars will go on sale early next year — and five more new or updated Kia models will follow. In total, Kia will release seven new or updated cars in 2013, Automotive News reports. “We are going to have a very, very busy auto show circuit,” Loveless told reporters.
Seven cars in such a short period may seem like a torrid pace, but Kia has done it before. The brand introduced or redesigned half a dozen cars between the 2009 and 2011 model years, though one — the thirsty Borrego SUV — flopped. Expect a big marketing push for the new crop: The Detroit Free Press reports Kia will have a commercial in the next Super Bowl.
The Forte hasn’t been one of Kia’s best-sellers, but the Sorento was the brand’s most popular car in 2011. Its sales are down 12% through August, however, dropping the car to third place behind the Soul and Optima. All indications are the Optima will top Kia’s podium for 2012 — and we can see why. So set your clocks for late November, Kia fans. The U.S. auto-show circuit kicks off with the media preview Nov. 28 and 29 at this year’s L.A. Auto Show.
