Vehicles Affected: Approximately 3,000 model-year 2019-20 BMW M5 coupes and model-year 2020 M8 Gran Coupes, and M8 coupes and convertibles
The Problem: The transmission wiring harness can become damaged, resulting in an electrical short circuit that can cause the transmission to shift to Neutral, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace any damaged transmission harnesses for free.
What Owners Should Do: BMW will begin notifying owners Feb. 3. BMW owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
