2019-20 Mazda3: Recall Alert
The Problem: Incorrect programming of the smart braking system control software may cause the car to falsely detect an obstacle in front of the vehicle while driving. In certain cases, the SBS control software may automatically apply the car brakes to prevent or reduce damage from a collision even though no collision is imminent. If the SBS automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly activates while driving, the risk of a rear-end crash from a following vehicle may increase.
The Fix: A remedy is not yet available.
What Owners Should Do: Mazda will begin notifying owners once a remedy has been developed. Owners can call the automaker at 800-222-5500, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
