2019 Honda Ridgeline: Everything You Need to Know

Honda’s 2019 Ridgeline pickup truck is a polarizing vehicle — even calling it a pickup really bothers some people, all because it uses a unibody frame instead of the traditional body-on-frame construction of a pickup. Here’s the thing: The Ridgeline can do pretty much everything your average mid-size pickup can do — and most mid-size truck owners don’t even use their truck for much traditional “truck” stuff like towing and hauling. So just can it with the complaints, OK? Spend that mental energy elsewhere.

The Ridgeline has one engine across its entire lineup, a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 280 horsepower. Paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, it comes in front- and all-wheel drive variants. Thanks to its unibody construction, the Ridgeline has a noticeably smoother ride than its “true” truck competitors like the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado. That construction also gives the Ridgeline a bed without wheel wells encroaching into the usable cargo area and it features a handy lockable storage compartment under the bed floor.
Sharing structural elements with the popular Pilot SUV and Odyssey minivan also helped the Ridgeline become the first pickup truck of any size to qualify for a 2019 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick award.
In our recent 2019 Mid-Size Pickup Challenge, the Ridgeline capitalized on its strengths to win against a field that included the 2019 Ford Ranger, 2019 GMC Canyon and 2020 Jeep Gladiator. If you’re looking to buy a mid-size pickup, the Ridgeline is truly tough to beat. Read about how it won our comparison, how it handles child safety seats and more in our coverage below.
