One of the earliest players in the electric-car game continues to demonstrate its relevance. The Nissan Leaf was redesigned for 2018 with additional driving range, and for 2019, the automaker added the Leaf Plus version with an even greater range estimated at around 226 miles — much more than the standard version’s estimated 150 miles on a full charge.

Like the regular model, the 2019 Nissan Leaf Plus has seating for five and uses an e-Pedal setup, which initiates gradual braking when the driver simply lifts their foot off the accelerator pedal. Where it differs, however, is with its bigger battery pack and more powerful version of the electric motor.

The new Leaf Plus makes considerably more horsepower than the regular Leaf; it’s rated at 214 hp compared with the regular Leaf’s 147 hp. Both versions use the same electric motor to drive the front wheels, but the Leaf Plus’ higher-capacity battery pack supports the greater output.
