Though overshadowed by a recall for its Super Duty truck line, Ford’s other big vehicles are also being recalled today. Some 39,000 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs (Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand) are being recalled over a potential engine compartment fire.
Affected vehicles include model-year 2021 Expeditions and Navigators. An engine compartment fire may occur while driving or parked even with the ignition in the Off position. Worryingly, Ford did not issue an explanation for how the fire could start; instead, it only advised owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures until a remedy — still under development — is performed.
Letters notifying owners of the risk are expected to be sent May 23. Those with further questions in the meantime can call Ford at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22S36), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
