2022 Chevrolet Corvette: What’s Changed?

When we first reviewed the 2020 C8 Corvette, we pondered whether the sub-$60,000 price was too good to be true. All this performance and mid-engine layout for $59,995, including destination charge? There wasn’t much ceiling to stay under 60 large, but the 2021 model year saw a $1,000 price jump, and the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette’s pricing gets another hike to $62,195, up $1,200 since 2021 and $2,200 in two model years. But what else has changed for 2022?

Not a lot, it turns out. For 2022, the Corvette’s 6.2-liter V-8 (490 to 495 horsepower, depending on trim level) receives an upgraded direct fuel-injection system, improved engine calibration and enhanced Active Fuel Management range, the third of which allows the engine to cut off cylinders to save fuel in more situations, according to a Chevrolet spokesperson. The Corvette lineup also offers three new colors: Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine and Amplify Orange Tintcoat. On cars without the optional Z51 Performance Package, a low-profile rear spoiler is newly available, and Chevrolet will offer the Z51 front splitter on non-Z51 ’Vettes.

New Special Edition

For $6,595, an IMSA GTLM Championship Edition on coupes and convertibles is based on the 3LT trim level with Z51 Performance Package. That’s a lot of acronym to unpack, so for those unfamiliar, IMSA is the International Motor Sports Association, a race-series sanctioning body; and GTLM, or GT Le Mans, is a class within IMSA’s sports car championship series in which Chevrolet prepares C8.R racing versions of its roadgoing C8. The IMSA GTLM Championship Edition mimics the color schemes of the No. 3 and No. 4 Corvettes that won the GT Manufacturers, Driver and Team titles in the car’s 2020 debut year.

The special edition’s exterior also includes a high-wing spoiler and side mirrors in a carbon finish, plus yellow brake calipers and black Trident wheel design. Inside, the special editions feature yellow and gray interior highlights with standard GT2 seats and yellow seat belts, plus a numbered plaque commemorating the limited availability of the 1,000 cars that will have the package. Lastly, a fitted car cover is included that’s rendered to the appearance of the race car corresponding to the Corvette’s color scheme.
