Powertrain Specs and MPG

The Forte’s standard engine remains a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 147 horsepower and 132 pounds-feet of torque. It’s mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission; front-wheel drive is standard. Fuel economy with the 2.0 ranges from an EPA-estimated 30/41/34 mpg city/highway/combined in base LX Trims to 28/39/32 mpg with the XLS and GT-Line.

The Forte GT packs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 201 hp and 195 pounds-feet, matched with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The dual-clutch automatic is rated at 27/35/30 mpg, while the manual demands a real commitment from its buyer, with fuel economy dropping to 22/31/26 mpg.

Computerized Vigilance

Even the base Forte LX boasts a competitive suite of safety tech, with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and lane departure steering assist all standard. Blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are optional on the LXS and standard on the GT-Line and GT. For 2024, the GT-Line gets standard pedestrian and cyclist avoidance, an electronic parking brake, navigation-based adaptive cruise control and Highway Driving Assist, which combines lane-centering steering and Lane Following Assist.
