2025 Ford Bronco Free Wheeling: Hey, Remember the ’80s?

Ford struck marketing gold when it rolled out a Bronco Mini Me alongside its resurrected off-road icon for the 2021 model year. Starting some $10,000 cheaper than its real-deal big brother SUV, the Bronco Sport gives a taste of desert glory to those with smaller budgets. It also, apparently, provides Ford with a testing ground for retro ideas. Following in the tire tracks of the 2024 Bronco Sport — or, more accurately, decimating those tracks — Ford is rolling out the 2025 Bronco Free Wheeling.

Like the Bronco Sport Free Wheeling that debuted for 2024, the 2025 Bronco Free Wheeling recalls a package that Ford offered on trucks and vans in the late 1970s and early ’80s. It features broad stripes on the body sides in a sunset-inspired gradient from red just under the windows to yellow along the bottom of the doors. Inside, the stripes are echoed in the upper seatbacks and red, orange and yellow stitching. More subtle splashes of red outline the “Bronco” lettering in the grille and rim the optional Sasquatch Package’s black 17-inch wheels.

Based on the entry-level Big Bend trim, the 2025 Ford Bronco Free Wheeling is also a throwback to the ’70s and ’80s in terms of its basic feature content. The Sasquatch Package and a black-painted hard top might be among the few options for the SUV, but buyers and dreamers alike can spec themselves separately. Ford is also introducing a full line of Free Wheeling merch (T-shirts, hats, water bottles, even a bomber jacket) adorned with matching stripes. The Bronco Free Wheeling will go on sale in January 2025, but you can buy your matching key chain now.
