After installing an over-the-air update for the Uconnect system Oct. 10, some Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners took to social media sites and internet forums to report some serious issues they were experiencing with their vehicles, including dashboard error messages and sudden power losses while driving. Now, an official recall has been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the issue.
Jeep parent company Stellantis is recalling more than 24,200 model-year 2023-25 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs over the issue. The OTA update may cause incomplete communication between the hybrid control processor and telematics box module; as a result, the processor may reset. If it resets while the vehicle is in motion, the vehicle could lose drive power and crash unexpectedly.
The remedy for the issue is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed Nov. 25; in the meantime, owners with further questions may contact Stellantis at 800-853-1403 (its number for this recall is A7C), the NHTSA vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit the NHTSA website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
