The latest recall from the Volkswagen Group concerns both its namesake and the luxury Audi brand, specifically its electric vehicles and their instrument displays.
Nearly 60,500 vehicles are included in the recall. Affected cars are model-year 2021-23 VW ID.4 hatchbacks, as well as model-year 2022-23 Audi Q4 E-Trons and Q4 e-Tron Sportbacks. The instrument panel may not properly display the transmission gear lever indicator, which may result in a rollaway if the parking brake isn’t engaged, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the brake control unit software for free to resolve the issue. Volkswagen will begin notifying owners April 25, but those with further questions can contact VW at 800-893-5298, Audi at 800-253-2834, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
