The latest major recall to affect Ford’s lineup involves its brand-new pickup truck for 2022 — and our double-award winner — the Maverick. Following a recall in July for a potential engine compartment fire risk, the compact pickup is once again up for service, this time involving side curtain airbags.
Nearly 65,000 Mavericks are affected. Ford’s explanation of the issue is concise: The side curtain airbags do not meet federal “displacement requirements” and therefore may not deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Ford confirmed in an email to Cars.com that there were no known accidents or injuries at the time of publication.
To resolve this potentially serious problem, dealers will replace both the left and right side curtain airbag modules with a new design for free. Ford will begin notifying owners Sept. 22; those with further questions in the meantime can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 22C20), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
