What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • Mercedes-Benz has redesigned its C-Class luxury sedan as the all-electric C400 4Matic Electric for the 2027 model year.
  • Unlike Mercedes’ EQ line of electric vehicles, the electric C-Class maintains the general profile and familiar design cues of previous C-Class models and is expected to be sold alongside gas-engine C-Class models.
  • The 2027 C400 4Matic Electric is slated to arrive at U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2027.

Mercedes’ C-Class compact sedan is redesigned for the 2027 model year and is launching as a C400 4Matic Electric model, which has a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain. More versions are likely to follow, including gasoline-engine versions. While pricing and more details will be released closer to the C400’s projected on-sale date in the first half of 2027, here are four things to know now about the 2027 C400 4Matic Electric. Quicker, More Powerful Than 2026 Mercedes-AMG C43

The C400 4Matic Electric’s dual electric-motor powertrain makes 482 horsepower and 590 pounds-feet of torque, and Mercedes says the car is capable of a 3.9-second 0-60 mph run. For comparison, the entry-level gasoline-engine 2026 Mercedes C300 makes 255 hp, and the high-performance AMG C43 makes 416 hp and can accelerate from 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, according to Mercedes.

800-Volt Architecture for 350-Kilowatt DC Fast Charging

Like Mercedes’ redesigned-for-2026 CLA-Class EV and the new-generation EQS, the C400 Electric uses Mercedes’ 800-volt charging architecture. Mercedes says the car’s 94-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery can be DC fast-charged at up to 330 kilowatts at an 800-volt charging station, going from a 10%-80% state of charge in as little as 22 minutes. EPA range estimates haven’t been established yet, but Mercedes claims a range of about 473 miles based on the European test cycle; that’s more than competitive with the current crop of EVs on the market, though there’s generally a drop in ratings from European testing to EPA figures.

Available Rear-Wheel Steering, Navigation-Linked Air Suspension

Like the current gasoline-engine C-Class, the C400 Electric will be available with rear-axle steering and an Airmatic air suspension. The optional Agility & Comfort Package adds an air suspension that uses Google Maps data for predictive damping and automatic ride-height control, as well as a rear-axle steering system with a steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees. Mercedes says it reduces the car’s turning circle by nearly 3 feet to 36.7 feet.

Several High-End Technology Features Available

Like most Mercedes vehicles, the new electric C-Class can be outfitted with a host of high-tech available features. Among these are a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen display that spans the dashboard and includes independently adjustable brightness zones for the driver and front passenger, as well as a Sky Control panoramic glass roof that can be switched between transparent and opaque in nine independently switchable segments. The fourth-generation MBUX navigation system uses artificial intelligence technology from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini for more conversational voice-command interaction. Mercedes says the Digital Extra: Navigation with Electric Intelligence system can respond dynamically to traffic jams and changes in driving style when predicting range. Read More From Cars.com:
