What Car Shoppers Need to Know:

  • New options and packages available for 2027 Dodge Durango
  • V-6 engine and rear-wheel drive dropped from lineup
  • Pricing starts at $45,670.

Seventeen years is an outrageously long time for a modern vehicle to stay in production without a complete generational overhaul. But the Dodge Durango sold better in its 16th year than the third-generation SUV has yet, so the brand has high hopes for the 2027 model. With three rows of seating, the Durango seats seven or, with the available second-row captain’s chairs, six.

What’s Changed for 2027?

The Durango’s powertrain offerings in the last couple of years have had more plot twists and turns than a season of “Severance” at double speed. Dodge was canceling its V-8 engines. Then it dropped the V-6 instead. Then the V-6 was back. Now it’s gone again, along with RWD, leaving the Durango with an all-V-8, all-AWD lineup. Dodge is offering more options and packages with each of the three available V-8s.

Performance and MPG

The entry-level Durango GT is powered by a 5.7-liter V-8 engine producing 360 horsepower and 390 pounds-feet of torque. The Durango R/T upgrades to a 6.4-liter V-8 with 475 hp and 470 pounds-feet, while the SRT Hellcat features the brand’s famous supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 making 710 hp and 645 pounds-feet. All are backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD.

Dodge says the Durango GT needs 6.2 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph, while the R/T gets there in 4.4 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. The brand claims the Durango Hellcat can go from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and run an 11.5-second quarter-mile.

Big V-8 engines are not noted for their fuel efficiency. The Durango GT returned an EPA-rated 14/21/16 mpg city/highway/combined for 2026, while the R/T was rated at 13/19/15 mpg. The supercharged Hellcat returned 12/17/13 mpg. (Official 2027 numbers are not yet in.)

Standard or Optional Features

The Durango’s standard safety suite is minimal, but it does include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors front and rear. However, the entry-level Durango GT is otherwise well equipped, with 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers and a power liftgate. Inside, it includes heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel and three-zone automatic climate control. The SUV’s infotainment system consists of a 10.1-inch touchscreen with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a nine-speaker Alpine sound system.

Beyond its increased power, the base R/T also includes more aggressively tuned AWD, steering and suspension, the latter with standard adaptive dampers. It’s also fitted with Brembo brakes.

A $3,600 upcharge on both the GT and R/T, the Plus trim level adds adaptive cruise control, heated exterior mirrors and a moonroof. It upgrades the interior with power adjustments for the steering wheel and front passenger seat, plus leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats.

For a further $3,000, GT and R/T buyers can step up to the Premium trim. This level includes an enhanced forward collision warning system, lane departure warning, upgraded interior trim including a stitched dash panel and forged carbon-fiber trim, and a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.

The Hellcat’s suspension and brakes are further improved to cope with its 710 hp. Other standard features include a mix of the base and Plus trim levels from lesser Durangos. For $995, the SRT Hellcat’s Jailbreak option opens up complete freedom for buyers to pick and choose colors and options without the factory ever saying no.

Versus the Competition

Dodge boasts that the Durango GT is the most affordable AWD V-8 SUV and proclaims the R/T offers the most horsepower per dollar of any gas-burning SUV. Impressive as that may be, volatile gas prices may mean shoppers are more concerned with fuel economy than output. By that measure, the Durango significantly trails every competitive vehicle.

Here’s how it stacks up on price, power, seating capacity and fuel efficiency versus SUVs with at least 300 hp.
