The Honda CR-V is the brand’s bestseller and one of the bestselling vehicles in the country. But shoppers looking to get many of the qualities that make the CR-V so popular for thousands of dollars less can check out the HR-V. The brand’s smallest and most affordable SUV, the HR-V has a base price of just $28,050, some $4,300 less than what it costs to get into an entry-level CR-V.

Pricing

The 2027 Honda HR-V is on sale now. Full line pricing is as follows:

• LX: $28,050
• Sport: $29,850
• EX-L: $31,900

What’s Changed for 2027

The HR-V carries over for 2027. The current generation dates back to 2023 and remains largely unchanged. For 2026, Honda made a few small changes to the SUV, making a 9-inch touchscreen standard along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless phone charging.

Standard and Optional Features

Standard equipment on the entry-level HR-V LX includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlight and taillights and push-button start. In addition to the newly standard 9-inch touchscreen, the HR-V also boasts a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The standard audio system has four speakers.

Riding on black 18-inch wheels, the Sport trim is also distinguished by a unique grille and a black spoiler and side mirror housings. It also adds heated front seats and two more speakers.

At the top of the HR-V lineup sits the EX-L. It, too, sits on 18-inch wheels, though these are machine-finished with black accents. Luxury features of the EX-L include a moonroof, leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-speaker sound system.

The Honda Sensing safety suite is standard on the 2027 HR-V. It includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure steering assist, adaptive cruise control, a driver-attention monitor, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. The Sport adds blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert, and the EX-L gets front and rear parking sensors.

Powertrain Specs and MPG

The sole powertrain available in the HR-V is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 138 pounds-feet of torque, mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive available for $1,500 on every trim level. According to Honda, FWD HR-Vs return an 26/32/28 mpg city/highway/combined; with AWD, the HR-V is rated at 25/30/27 mpg.

Versus the CR-V

Starting at $32,370 for a 2026 model, the larger CR-V offers far more choice than the HR-V. In the CR-V, Sport and TrailSport trim levels get a hybrid powertrain. The list of features offered on the CR-V but not the HR-V is short — luxuries such as a power liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a 12-speaker Bose audio system and a larger 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster — and are mostly limited to the $44,000 Sport Touring Hybrid trim.

Front-seat space in the two Hondas is nearly identical. The CR-V has an additional 0.6 inch of headroom but actually offers less legroom — by the same 0.6 inch. The larger difference is in the backseat, where the CR-V has a meaningful 3.3 inches more legroom than the smaller SUV. With 39.3 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seats up and 76.5 cubic feet with them folded, the CR-V also boasts significantly more cargo space than the HR-V’s 24.4 and 55.1 cubic feet, respectively.

The larger, more powerful CR-V is surprisingly more efficient than the HR-V, and that’s before you even consider the CR-V’s available hybrid powertrain. The CR-V’s base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 190 hp and 179 pounds-feet of torque, also paired with a CVT. It is EPA-rated at 28/33/30 mpg with FWD and 27/31/29 mpg with AWD.The CR-V hybrid improves both efficiency and power considerably. It is rated at 43/36/40 mpg with FWD and 40/34/37 mpg with AWD.
