What Car Shoppers Need to Know

  • The 2027 Jeep Compass is Jeep’s smallest and cheapest vehicle, but four-wheel drive is standard.
  • A subcompact SUV, the Compass competes against the likes of the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.
  • Pricing starts at $31,985, including the destination charge.

The Compass might be Jeep’s smallest and most affordable offering, but it’s still a Jeep. That means 4WD is standard, and the lineup includes a Trailhawk trim with genuine off-road gear that you won’t find on competitors like the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos or Toyota Corolla Cross.

What’s Changed for 2027?

Jeep is adding more standard and optional equipment for 2027. Newly standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control across the Compass lineup, as well as wireless phone charging and second-row USB ports on the Limited and Trailhawk. As for optional gear, the new Premium Lighting Group adds LED taillights and foglights to the Limited and Trailhawk, and the Driver Assist Package available on the same trim levels now includes a 360-degree parking camera.

Fuel Economy

Every 2027 Compass is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 200 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque. It is backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4WD.

Interior and Off-Road Features

The Compass lineup opens with the Latitude trim level, which gets manually adjustable front seats and cloth upholstery, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a tilt/telescoping steering column. Infotainment functions are handled through an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and six speakers. Exterior features include 17-inch aluminum wheels, LED headlights, heated mirrors, and keyless entry and start. Jeep includes a lot of standard safety tech compared to the Compass’ competitive set: forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor and automatic high beams.

One step above the Latitude, the Limited sits on 18-inch wheels and sports a black roof, rain-sensing windshield wipers with a heated wiper park, a hands-free power liftgate and rear parking sensors. The Limited’s cabin gains synthetic leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen and wireless phone charging. Available on both the Latitude and the Limited, the Altitude includes upsize wheels — 18s on the Latitude and 19s on the Limited — finished in black, with black and gray exterior trim and piano-black interior trim. The Latitude Altitude also upgrades to the 10.1-inch touchscreen that is already standard on the Limited.

The Compass Trailhawk gets all of the Limited’s luxury features plus an injection of off-road gear that goes well beyond the appearance packages typically offered on small SUVs. Sitting a half-inch higher than the rest of the Compass family with 8.6 inches of ground clearance to their 8.1 inches, the Trailhawk rides on black 17-inch wheels wearing all-terrain tires. A revised front bumper massively improves the approach angle, from 16.1 degrees to 30.4. The breakover and departure angles are also increased, but not by as much: 23.6 degrees (versus 22.5) and 34 degrees (versus 31.4), respectively. A two-speed transfer case with a low range maximizes torque during steep ascents and descents, while skid plates protect the front suspension, fuel tank, transmission and transfer case from impacts with the ground. The Trailhawk also wears black and gray exterior trim, along with signature red tow hooks. Inside, it sports premium cloth seats trimmed in leather and red accent stitching.

Versus the Competition

The 2027 Jeep Compass is pricier than most of its rivals, which is risky positioning in such a cost-conscious class. But its standard 4WD offsets the premium somewhat, as does its generous list of standard equipment. The Compass is also rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds, a standout figure considering that towing is not recommended at all for many of its competitors.
