What’s Changed for 2027?

Subaru adds a new Ascent-exclusive exterior color, Deepwater Blue Pearl. Another new color is Daybreak Blue Pearl, though that’s available on other Subarus. Both colors add $395.

Inside, the Ascent adds USB-C charging ports near the third row, supplementing the existing USB-A ports. Subaru also adds a new interior light switch that lets the driver disable door-activated interior lights.

Other feature updates vary by trim. The Limited gains an LED rear liftgate lamp that lights up the cargo area when the liftgate is open. Touring models add a 120-volt power outlet in the cargo area and also upgrade its smart rearview mirror, now including auto dimming, a compass and HomeLink. The Onyx Edition Touring trim’s updates are focused on the trim’s exterior, adding black window moulding, a gloss-black grille, and Crystal Black Silica accents on the wing and roof spoiler.

The powertrain, including the standard continuously variable automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, up to 5,000 pounds towing capacity and trim lineup all carry over from 2026.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The 2027 Ascent continues to be powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder engine producing 260 horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a CVT featuring an eight-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Fuel economy should remain the same as 2026 at 19/25/22 mpg city/highway/combined for Limited, Touring and Onyx Edition Touring variants and 19/26/22 mpg for the other trims.

Standard or Optional Features

Every 2027 Ascent comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight driver assistance suite, which includes a wide-angle parking camera, automatic emergency braking, Emergency Stop Assist, blind spot detection with lane departure steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking and emergency steering. Subaru’s distraction mitigation system is standard on Limited, Limited Bronze Edition, Touring and Onyx Edition Touring trims.

The entry-level Premium trim is available in seven- or eight-occupant configurations and comes standard with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power lifegate, raised roof rails, keyless access with push-button start, Trailer Stability Assist, and USB-A and USB-C charging ports throughout the cabins.

The Limited trim adds leather upholstery, heated second-row outboard seats, a memory driver’s seat, power-folding mirrors, a surround-view camera system, Cabin Connect (which projects the driver’s voice to rear passengers) and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. Based on the Limited, the Limited Bronze Edition adds bronze-finish wheels and bronze exterior and interior accents.

The Touring model adds Nappa leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, captain’s chairs and a new 120-volt cargo-area power outlet.

The Onyx Edition Touring builds on the Touring with black exterior accents, unique wheels and green contrast stitching throughout the cabin.

Versus the Competition

Not much has changed on the Ascent for 2027, and it’s unlikely that the Ascent would place much differently than the last-place finish in our previous three-row SUV comparison test. However, the Ascent’s updates for 2027 add convenience for passengers who regularly use the third row and cargo area.
