How Much Is the Refreshed 2025 Ford Explorer?

Ford refreshed the Explorer for the 2025 model year, giving the mid-size SUV a selection of new grilles, new LED headlights, and a thoroughly updated interior with different upholstery and trim for each trim level. While the Explorer’s base price increases $2,895 from the 2024 model, the overhaul adds more standard equipment, putting the entry-level Active trim on par with last year’s step-up XLT, which had a comparatively drab interior with an itty-bitty infotainment screen.

Availability and Pricing
There’s still no word on the off-road-oriented variant Ford has hinted at and that we expect will be a Tremor, but the rest of the 2025 Ford Explorer line is on sale now. Full line pricing, including the $1,595 destination fee, is as follows:
- Active: $41,350
- ST-Line: $46,210
- Platinum: $53,845
- ST: $55,855
Safety Features and Trim Levels
The Explorer’s standard safety suite is upgraded for 2025 and includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-centering steering, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, oncoming traffic alert, emergency steering assist, automatic high beams and rear parking sensors.
Riding on 18-inch wheels, the 2025 model’s entry-level Active trim includes front and rear LED lighting, a power liftgate, and keyless entry and start. The seats are still cloth but are now power-adjustable and heated in front. The Active also includes a heated steering wheel, three-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 13.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The ST-Line features the aggressive looks of the ST but without the more aggressive styling and driving dynamics. It does, however, get 20-inch wheels, heated second-row seats and a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. The ST-Line also has Ford’s hands-free semi-autonomous BlueCruise highway driving system available; a 360-degree parking camera, front parking sensors and reverse automatic braking are standard.
Switching positions with the ST in the Explorer pricing hierarchy, the luxurious Platinum trim is $2,520 cheaper for 2025 than it was for 2024 but includes more standard equipment. To the ST-Line’s comfort features, the Platinum adds a panoramic moonroof, rain-sensing windshield wipers, remote start, a wireless charging pad, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, and heated, ventilated and massaging front seats.
At a price $4,155 higher than the 2024 ST, the 2025 ST includes not just the high-output engine, sport-tuned suspension and red brake calipers of its 2024 analogue, but also luxury features like heated and ventilated (but not massaging) front sport seats, heated second-row seats and a heated sport steering wheel.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
Every 2025 Explorer except the ST is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower and 310 pounds-feet of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive is standard across the line; all-wheel drive can be added to every trim for an extra $2,000. The 2025 Explorer returns an EPA-estimated 20/29/24 mpg city/highway/combined with RWD and 20/27/23 mpg with AWD.
While the ST-Line shares its 2.3-liter engine with the rest of the lineup, the full-bore ST packs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 that whips up 400 hp and 415 pounds-feet and is also teamed with a 10-speed automatic (the powertrain can be had on the Platinum, as well). The ST earns an EPA-rated 18/25/21 mpg with either RWD or AWD.
