Hybrid owners want their say in government. Today a new lobbying group, the Hybrid Owners of America, is on the scene in D.C. to urge lawmakers to keep intact the healthy incentives that the government offers to buyers of the combination gasoline- and electric-powered vehicles. In 2006, without any hybrid lobby, the federal government actually increased its tax credit to hybrid buyers, offering a range of $400 to $3,400 depending on the car’s gas mileage.

Believe it or not, this is not a first; there is an SUV Owners of America lobby already entrenched in Washington. We’re not sure owners of specific vehicles should get special treatment, though. And where will the trend end? Minivan Owners of America?
