Hyundai Really Wants Us to Check Out This New Venue

Hyundai was caught short with a line of cars when shoppers stopped buying cars, and it’s been hustling ever since to roll out new SUVs. The latest is the all-new Venue, which the automaker gave us another sneak peek at today on the baby SUV’s way to an unveiling at the 2019 New York International Auto Show.

An earlier photo tease showed just a bit of the hatchback; today’s sketches (gallery above) show the exterior and interior. All we know so far from Hyundai is that the Venue will be the brand’s “smallest and most affordable SUV,” meaning it would fit under the little Kona in the lineup. So it’s a city-size subcompact, and the Venue name may be an effort to give it a “happening” image for urban millennials. Hyundai boasts it will have “a trendy, unique style” as well as “safety, versatility and connectivity.”

If you want to see a little more and be the fashion judge, spy photos here show a camouflaged version being tested alongside the now-unveiled 2020 Kia Soul. It appears to be a bit smaller than the Soul, but they might have a lot in common. Hyundai doesn’t have a small “boxy car” to compete with the Soul, nor with the new Nissan Kicks or Toyota C-HR. These are more hatchback cars than SUVs as none offers all-wheel drive, for example. But they do offer style — including customizable color combinations and funky interiors, as well as up-to-date multimedia and safety tech, SUV-like hauling flexibility and low, carlike starting prices.

All Hyundai is saying is that that “from everyday workplace activities to weekend fun, Venue is a great fit in accommodating busy lifestyles with an abundance of playful and practical features.”
