A year after debuting at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Lucid Gravity is finally going into production. The follow-up act to the acclaimed Lucid Air sedan, the Gravity is an electric SUV that is expected to share much of its architecture with the Air. Lucid will begin taking orders for the Gravity through its website on Nov. 7.

Grand Opening

While we’ve had a chance to get up close with the Gravity, there are still a lot of unknowns about the upcoming SUV — namely most of its specs and details. Lucid will launch the Grand Touring trim first, which the company says will make more than 800 horsepower and boast a range in excess of 440 miles. That sounds a lot like the Air Grand Touring, which has electric motors front and rear combining to produce 819 hp and an EPA-rated range of up to 512 miles.

The Grand Touring will be followed about a year later by the less-grand Touring trim. Lucid has provided no details yet on this variant, but if the Gravity range parallels the Air lineup as much as the Grand Touring’s initial specs suggest, the Gravity Touring will have around 620 hp and a range in the mid- to high-300 range. (The Air Touring gets up to 406 miles.)

Promises and Asterisks

The Grand Touring will go on sale first, but it will be the Touring that delivers on Lucid’s promise of a sub-$80,000 base price — and only if you don’t include the unavoidable destination fee. Arriving late next year, the Touring will start at $79,900. The destination fee is as yet unknown but will definitely be higher than $99.99. (It’s $1,500 for the Air and will likely be the same for the Gravity.)

Orders for the Gravity Grand Touring open on Nov. 7, and Lucid says production will start later this year. Pricing starts at $94,900 for the Grand Touring, and Lucid will be prioritizing deliveries to current Air owners.
