In July, Mitsubishi announced plans to update its entire lineup by the second quarter of 2021 — and yes, that includes the Mirage. More significantly, that also includes a redesign of the Eclipse Cross small SUV that partially carries on the legacy of the Eclipse coupe. Mitsubishi promised exterior and interior updates to the Eclipse Cross for the 2022 model year, and now we have our first faint glimpse of what’s to come.

Exterior

What we can see looks like a restyled version of the Eclipse Cross’ front with prominent, angular chrome pieces sitting below the headlights and flanking the grille. The sculpted sides and substantial rocker panel design seem relatively unchanged, leading to a rear design that appears to have similar protruding taillights and an angular liftgate that also doesn’t seem too revised … except if the reflection is to be believed, it looks like the next Eclipse Cross won’t have a horizontal lighting element connecting the taillights and awkwardly bisecting the rear windscreen. Restyled five-spoke wheels are shown on this particular example, but it’s unknown if the other wheel options are new or if they carry over from the previous generation.

Interior

Hard facts or even hints at what’s been done to the interior are not yet forthcoming, but Mitsubishi previously promised a “revised interior and new infotainment system.”

Release Date

According to Mitsubishi, the 2022 Eclipse Cross will arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2021. A full reveal and further information regarding its updates should occur before then.
