Top of mind for any Jeep enthusiast when shopping for a new Wrangler: fuel economy, obviously, right? OK, maybe that’s a slight … er, make that a gross distortion of reality. But even if conserving fuel — or at least saving money at the pump — falls further down your checklist, you’ve now at least got options thanks to the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel, of which our expert review by Cars.com’s Brian Wong motors its way efficiently to the No. 1 spot among our most read reviews of the week. Meanwhile, the 2020 Land Rover Defender and 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E top our list of most watched videos this week.

Available only on four-door Wrangler Unlimited models (for now, anyway), Wong logged a sizable boost in fuel economy during his review drive with the diesel compared with regular-gas versions: 31.2 mpg observed versus 22 mpg for both the V-6 and turbo four-cylinder engines mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. That’s in addition to the estimated 500 miles of range the diesel purports to offer, eager low-end torque response and all the off-road readiness you look for in the iconic Wrangler — just remember that’s it’s a diesel with at least some of the requisite diesel peculiarities.

“If your heart is set on the diesel, it does seem to offer significant range and efficiency advantages, and the Wrangler’s off-road capability carries on uncompromised — not to mention all of that added torque, which makes for easy acceleration,” Wong concluded. “But the drawbacks in noise, ride quality and price also make it difficult for me to say that the EcoDiesel is better, just different.”

On the audiovisual front, a pair of videos documenting our reviewers’ first impressions of two high-profile reveals at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show in November make their way to the top of the heap. Those include the 2020 Land Rover Defender, a global off-road icon traversing its way back to the U.S. for the first time in more than two decades, at No. 1, and close behind at No. 2 the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, a performance-oriented SUV named for the American muscle luminary but plugged into the inevitability of an all-electric future (resistance is futile).
