SpringTeq’s WeGo HUD Navigator mashes together one old-school piece of car technology with a new one. Much like GM’s HUD, which offers turn-by-turn directions with arrows alerting the driver via OnStar, the WeGo combines GPS satellite navigation with a head-up display that projects onto the windshield.
The 4.5-inch image appears a little over three feet in front of the driver, projected with 400-by-240 pixel resolution, and the display will remain visible even in competing sunlight. The projector uses an optical sensor to adjust the HUD’s brightness based on the amount of external light.
The WeGo runs Windows CE and also comes with 2 gigabytes of built-in flash memory. It doesn’t look so hot in the above picture, but maybe it’s cooler in real life. Pricing and availability information will become available toward the end of the year.
