The GMC Terrain is the brand’s smallest SUV offering, but don’t let its size fool you: the SUV still comes with plenty of standard equipment. It also benefits from a host of updates for the 2023 model year that help enhance many of the things we already like about the Terrain.

Black Diamond Edition Polishes Up Luxury

A key update for 2023 is the appearance of the all-new Denali Black Diamond Edition. This package is a $3,240 upgrade on top of the standard Denali trim, and as the name implies, it adds darkened 19-inch wheels, Ebony Twilight Metallic black paint and the Denali Premium Package’s equipment, which includes a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control and a panoramic moonroof.

The rest of the updates for the 2023 model year are relatively minor. Three new colors are available: Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat and Deep Bronze Metallic. The first two are available across the entire trim lineup, while the third is reserved for the Denali model only. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine also gets beefed up slightly to produce 175 horsepower, while a new electronic brake-assist feature helps sharpen stopping behavior. Lastly, the Elevation Edition gets reworked 19-inch gloss-black wheels.

Pricing

Pricing for the 2023 Terrain increases by $1,500 across the lineup over the 2022 model. The base front-wheel-drive SLE model starts at $31,295 (all prices include destination), while the SLT model starts at $35,295 and serves as the volume model thanks to its higher level of standard equipment. All-wheel drive is optional on both trim levels for $1,600.

Starting at $37,395, the AT4 model is the trail-ready member of the family, while the Denali, which starts at $39,995, prefers to coddle occupants in luxury; both trims are available with AWD only.

The Terrain’s segment is a hotly contested battleground, and the SUV faces competition from several key rivals. The 2023 Toyota RAV4 starts at $28,910 and the 2023 Ford Escape at $29,640, with the latter receiving an extensive mid-cycle update.
