Purchased my 2021 Outback new; went to Balise as they had
Purchased my 2021 Outback new; went to Balise as they had treated my Dad very well when he had his 2006 Forester (purchased used) and thereafter when it developed issues. Love my Outback despite screen delays. However during my recent visit including the 2 year state inspection I was charged $30 for them to remove not only my plate frame which evidently covered the word Rhode Island (ok I agree with that decision) but they also removed the clear plastic covers. Rather than letting me remove these and NOT charge $30 they did it and I was not informed of this charge ahead of time. Manager did not address this silly charge. Hoping because it is not because I am female. Otherwise I like balise but will scrutinize every charge from here

Ask for Conor, he is the best!
Ask for Conor, he is the best! He is amazing and makes the process really smooth. He goes above and beyond for his customers and tries to help as much as possible. We received our 2022 Subaru Crosstrek in record time despite the supply chain demand! We had a slight hiccup in the beginning mechanically but Conor was on the ball and with us through the entire process, keeping us up to date, and provided us with a great rental while we waited on repairs.

First thing I would like to say is we have purchase 6
First thing I would like to say is we have purchase 6 Subarus over the last 25 years and 5 of them from this dealership. We would have purchased the 6 but we moved out of state and made our purchase there. Our last trip RI our Forester engine check light came on along with 2 other warning on the MySubaru app. We called the dealership we purchased it from and they advised us to take to the local dealership for diagnostics. Balise was the closest and told they would look at it. The service department cleared the codes and told us that there was too much oil and that probably caused the problem. We paid for a diagnostic check and a oil change and went on way. Less than 5 miles the all the warnings came back and The Balise service department told us it was ok to drive. We drove back home and made an appointment with our local dealer. Their diagnostic revealed that it was not the oil but a computer problem that was throwing off the timing and needed to be replaced. They did not recommend we drive it do to the potential danger to the engine and our safety. The reason for the low rating is both dealerships had access to exactly the same information. One dealership charged $179 to to diagnose the problem and performed out of warranty work. The other found the problem, retained the vehicle, provided a loaner vehicle and will cover all the expenses under warranty. I expected more from the dealership we have so done much business with. I guess things like quality of service do not always stay the same.

Don't know what happened, but this place just went WAY...
Don't know what happened, but this place just went WAY downhill over the past two years. I went from sending people here to actively avoiding the place, after what WAS a great experience with buying my 2020 Forrester. Very long story short, they installed the wrong size trailer hitch on my Forrester, and I found out (after MANY phone calls, a bunch of them unreturned) that they don't even OFFER the size or tongue strength I need. I asked for a 2", they told me "We've got THE (important word here) hitch in stock", and they installed a 1-1/4" that is apparently the only one they offer. Was told there was nothing anyone could do to rectify the situation, so I'm out $700 for a trailer hitch I can't use. Icing on the cake: when I asked why they wouldn't ask questions about what people were going to use the hitch for, so there wouldn't be misunderstanding or disappointment, I was told "that's none of our business". So, apparently, they're happy to install anything they deem appropriate, even if it doesn't do what you asked for or need, and then will keep your money because "there's nothing we can do". Again, used to love this place, but no longer. The only thing "we can do" is not get taken advantage of.

Dissapointing
I chose a Forester because they are the only mid size SUV that still comes with manual transmission. I bought a 2014 Forester from another dealer and was sent to Balise in early July 2021 by them to have a rear spring repaired as it was under extended warranty. To be fair, my experience with that was top notch. The assistant service manager Ben Rickard was professional, efficient and courteous. At the time of the spring repair I mentioned to Ben that the car had been consuming oil. He said there was another warranty extension that existed but the car would have to undergo an oil consumption test. They performed an oil change (at my expense) and instructed me to return after I had driven 1200 miles so they could check the oil level. I took a number of long drives dropping off and picking up my son to/from summer camp in Maine. After about 900 miles of driving while about 200 miles from home my oil light came on. I pulled over and called Balise immediately to have them advise me so I wouldn’t mess up their test. The woman I spoke with told me to pull over, wait 20-30 minutes for the car to cool down and add oil as needed. She also instructed me to write the mileage on the oil bottle and bring it with me when I came to have the oil test read. I did as I was told. Upon arriving at Balise, I was told that because the car was bought second hand, was not purchased at Balise and I had added oil, the test needed to be redone. They performed another oil change (at their expense this time) and off I went to drive another 1200 miles. This took longer than before because I have a short commute. I brought it back September 3rd and it failed the test which would’ve made it eligible for the warranty replacement. Shortly afterward I was informed that the warranty had lapsed in mid-august while I was driving through the second test and that they would provide the parts but I would be responsible for the labor to install (aprox. $2500.00). It didn’t seem fair that the car would not be covered because I had to repeat the test because I did WHAT THEY TOLD ME TO DO. I attempted to resolve this with Subaru of America but was stonewalled by them as well. The experience felt shady, like they extended things so they wouldn’t have to honor their warranty. It’s a shame because I like the Forester and will miss driving stick. My plan was to purchase a new car in two years when my son starts driving. I hope whatever they saved was bigger than the opportunity cost they lost.
