I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with my recent experience purchasing a vehicle from CarMax in Cranston, RI. I purchased a 2019 Ford Edge specifically for work, school, and safety reasons, but since day one, my car has spent more time in the shop than on the road. From the beginning, I faced ongoing issues with the car’s sensors, which resulted in Ford keeping my vehicle for a month. I had to personally intervene to expedite repairs, and it seemed as though the delay was an attempt to run out my 90-day warranty. After finally retrieving my car, it was soon back in the shop for AWD problems, including the replacement of the wheel bearings. The issues persisted, and the AWD warning light returned. When I attempted to use the warranty I purchased through CarMax, I was referred to a mechanic who tried to overcharge me and claimed I couldn’t seek service elsewhere. Only after speaking to the warranty company did I learn I had the right to choose my mechanic. Despite repeated repairs by Ford—including replacing the actuator—the problems continued. Within two weeks, I was back in the shop due to a strong propane smell, harsh gear shifting, and ongoing AWD issues. Throughout this ordeal, CarMax has refused to provide even basic assistance, such as a loaner vehicle, citing the mileage I’ve accumulated. However, my high mileage is a direct result of my work and school commitments, as well as the fact that I live 1.5 hours from Rhode Island to speak with CarMax about the issues and for them to inspect it. Their refusal to help, even after I explained I was stranded on the highway and missed work and school, is unacceptable. The response I received was dismissive and lacked any consideration for my situation. I have owned many vehicles before, none of which have had this many issues in such a short period of time, regardless of mileage. Cars are built to be driven, not to sit in one spot for months on end. I am now seeking legal representation, as no customer should be subjected to this level of neglect and poor service. I did not request a refund—only basic assistance in the form of a loaner vehicle while my car is being repaired. Given the circumstances, I believe CarMax should be held accountable for the ongoing problems and lack of support. I hope this letter serves as a warning to others and prompts CarMax to reconsider how they treat their customers in the future.

Trashy sales service. Not trust worthy.
This dealership is the worst dealership I’ve ever been to. I placed a hold on a 2017 Nissan Rogue SL on Saturday 9/25 with Alyssa and the suv was able to be held until 9/30 or I got the financing. Well on Tuesday morning when I went to call them to inform them I got outside financing from Capitol one and wanted to proceed forwarded with another application with capitol one they told me the vehicle was no longer being held for me and that another customer placed it on hold. I have called customer relations, spoke with the manager at Waterbury named Brian and NO ONE was willing to honor 9/30 hold that Alyssa gave me on Saturday 9/25. They ran my credit and started my application for this vehicle and then gave it to someone else. Their sales and management service is absolute trash and not worth buying a car from them. They have tried to get me to buy more expensive Nissans instead of the one I has placed on hold. If I could give them no stars I would! CARMAX DO BETTER!

Better Know about cars
Went to go look at a 2016 Audi S4 and found that the rear brakes were completely gone. Salesman said they look them over and it passed "their standards" If your going to buy from them, dont expect it to be free from issues.

Buying experience!
Everybody nowadays wants a review. So here we go. Carmax was a different experience! Better then what I've delt with in the past. Everything went smoothe and efficiently. The way it should be, no exceptions. Did they jump through hoops? NO! Did they offer me a drink? NO! Did they call me a week later to ask how I was enjoying my purchase? NO! They did the basics and only what they were getting paid to do. Still waiting 2 weeks plus to here back from service. You wanted my review, you got it!

The initial day we went to look, we were very happy leaving. We found something we loved, and Deb was amazing! We went back to do paperwork a few days later with Roger, who was also great to work with, and were told we could pick it up 24-48 hrs later. Friday came and there was a slight mix-up, but Eric and Deb took full responsibility for this mix-up and worked with us to fix it. Deb came in on her day off and we drove our car home the next day. Cannot say enough great things about the customer service here! Thank you for making our car-buying experience a good one!
