I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport from Dotcom Auto

I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport from Dotcom Auto in February 2026, and while the overall buying experience was pleasant, easy going, stress free and all-in-all positive, I would use caution when shopping here and have a mechanic inspect anything you plan to buy. They are nice enough, but who wouldn't be when you are trying to sell a car? If they were unpleasant to work with, they wouldn't be in business. Their inventory presents well, and they are accommodating, although negotiation is pretty much nonexistent, so don't bother trying to haggle. I got the car home, and within a few days, all the issues began to appear. First, a check engine light came on for a faulty purge valve. Not a big deal, but then about a week later we finally had a warm day and I was able to use the A/C, which did not work. The car blew out warm air even on full fan and 62*F on the thermostat. A day or so later I noticed that the coolant reservoir was low, so I added coolant, and then about a week after that, the reservoir was completely empty. This was accompanied by an issue where the heat was blowing out cold air unless you were at highway speeds. Finally, I noticed that there was coolant dripping on the ground from under the front passenger side of the car. Doing my research, the car needs a new water pump, which is a $3500.00 job on the 3.5L EcoBoost. I called the dealer to see what my options were. I have only had the car for two weeks, so surely there is some type of 30-day warranty...? When I spoke to the dealership, they stated that they don't warranty their cars and they are "as-is" unless you purchase the warranty from them which is serviced by a third-party company. So needless to say, I am out an extra $3500.00 on top of the $15,000 I paid for the car, which was way overpriced considering the issues it has. Let me start by saying the issue isn't the buying experience. My concern isn't even the lack of warranty or unwillingness to help in the situation. A contract is a contract, and "as-is" is on the buyer to do their homework and ensure the vehicle is 100% what they are looking for. I am an understanding person, and I know that I should have done a better inspection of the car or even had a PPI done. My concern here is the question of whether or not Dotcom Auto knew that the vehicle had these issues and sold it to me after topping up the coolant and clearing the Check Engine Light for the purge valve to hide the issues just long enough to sell the car. I would bet a sizeable amount of money that the answer is yes to both, because the likelihood of the water pump all of a sudden going out within a week of me buying the car, or the purge valve going bad immediately after I took delivery is slim. Both issues, particularly the water pump would have been showing symptoms slowly over time, and the dealership would have had to add coolant before listing the vehicle for sale, indicating there was an issue that needed to be addressed. The fact that they did not take the time to ensure a vehicle they sold was mechanically sound and would rather put band aids on major issues in order to sell the car to unsuspecting buyers is indicative of the way they do business. Sorry, I hate to leave bad reviews, but selling a car at this price with undisclosed mechanical issues is unacceptable.

Do not buy anything from them.

Do not buy anything from them. they will find accident car with clean carfax and sell in lower price. I got a 2014 Hyundai elantra from them it cannot pass any states inspection since the car has experienced serious accident. i have no idea how did they cheat on carfax, i paid 1600$ more to fix that car.

People were nice, car was junk.

People were nice, car was junk. Drove a Hyundai Equus that had less than 50000 miles. Got above 40mph and it felt like the wheels were going to fall off. I asked the sales guy if he has driven the car on the highway he said no. I thanked him for his time and told him he should.

Avoid these farces at all costs!

Avoid these farces at all costs! They do not want anything but cash. They have a 2014 Camaro SS that has been listed for sale for months. I was ready to pull the trigger and had a trade that had more equity than the car was worth. Told them I had a trade and that I was headed their way and was told not to go “just yet”…OK?! After more texting I gave them the trade info and as I was getting ready to drive over there, they texted me “with all due respect, your car is too expensive for our lot”…if that isn’t a red flag Stay away if you know what’s good for you!

I would not recommend buying from this dealership.

I would not recommend buying from this dealership. This dealership gave a vibe I shouldn't trust them and I should've gone listened to that voice to not buy from them. I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler from these folks back in August 2023. It had 82k miles at the time. Compared to other Wranglers on cars.com, it was priced well. It has modifications already completed on it and manual doors which are ideal for off-roading for me. There was a few things that needed attended to. The radio had a glitch in one of the buttons, the top is aftermarket and didn't fit exactly right. No rust to the body or structure. I had no issues taking it for a road test and took it to AutoZone do a code scan and no codes showed up. I ended buying the Jeep but it did not come with a warranty. I noticed a few weeks after buying it that I could smell coolant and it would smell hot after a short drive. The temp gauge reads dead center where it should, and the radiator fan kicks on like it should. Noticed during my first oil change the oil was runnier than it should be. The 3.8 V6 also was using oil. Had to add a quart every 1000 miles. I realized the head gaskets were starting to go. In January it developed a ticking noise, ended being a collapsed lifter. Now I'm looking at spending either a $1000 in parts to fix it myself or spend well over $4000 to have a shop replace the lifters, head gaskets, and whatever else needs fixed. I hope someone reads this before purchasing from them and learns a lesson from me, don't purchase a vehicle from a dealership that does not offer a warranty.

People stay way from any of these mom and pop dealerships

People stay way from any of these mom and pop dealerships on pleasantvalley road in Chantilly, VA. These are buy as is and these dealerships are all cousins. They will lie, make promises about the vehicles, and try to cover the mechanical as well as the physical issues with the vehicle without telling you. Always pull the the car fax and if the vehicle came from up north, “DO NOT” buy!!!! Seriously!!!!!

Beware

Just drove a hour to look at a 2010 ranger. Ad looks great,70k mi,1 owner, clean car fax. Under side has been freshly under coated to conceal HEAVY rust. Front lower fender mounts and rear bed mounts rusted out so fenders are just hanging and flapping at bottom. Either an undocumented flood vehicle or from a heavy road salted area. The former owner of the business was there and is very personable and was apologetic.
