James Mitsubishi dealership.
Brought my car to James Mitsubishi for a inspection, left the car overnight. The next day dealership called me at 8:35am and said my vehicle did not pass inspection for the following reasons, front pads and rotors need service $310.00 plus tax, rear pads and rotors need service $310.00 plus tax, license plate bulb$32.00 plus tax, out tire rod $126.00 plus tax, alignment $89.95 plus tax, transmission service $250.00 plus tax this same dealership replaced the entire transmission about two years ago under warranty. The Vehicle had approximately 17,000 miles on it when I bought it now it has 56,843 miles on it. The total price James Mitsubishi in Rome N.Y. Wanted to fix the Vehicle $1,139.95 plus tax. I told the Dealership I would pick the car up And do not perform any work on it. I then went to the dealership to pick the vehicle up I got in it started it back it out of the parking spot went forward about 10 or 12 feet and all of a sudden every single light came on my monitoring system. not one of these lights were on when I dropped vehicle off. I went back inside got the service manager showed him the lights and told him that when I brought this car and not one single light was on and now they’re all on. he said to me well sometimes cars just break down and I said to him the lights were not on when I brought the vehicle here. He then offered to hook up the computer to my vehicle to find out why all the lights were on and I agreed to his offer until he said but I will have to charge you $110.00 dollars. Well now I’m up too $1,249.00 plus tax to have my vehicle fixed. I left the dealership and went to another maintenance garage and explained to them what happen. They took my car and fixed the problems. They told me I had to have the vehicle re-inspected at James Mitsubishi and would not try to fix the service lights on my Monitor because they said it was caused by someone twisting A back wheel sensor. I took the car back to James MITSUBITSI to have the car inspected they called me the same day said the vehicle was done, I went to the dealership got my keys went out and started the vehicle and every single light was still on the dash monitor. I want back inside got the manager to come out to the vehicle and showed him the lights he said to me, So I told you I would put it on the computer to find out what was wrong but you wouldn’t let me and I said back because you wanted to charge me another$110.00 dollars. I said to him I don’t feel comfortable driving this vehicle he said back to me I wouldn’t feel safe driving it either. I said to the service manager you can’t be serious you just inspected my car past it and now you tell me you wouldn’t feel safe driving it either. I went home and call the district manager and filed a complaint with her she mostly agreed with me and the said A dealership can not pass a vehicle inspection with any service light on. She said I will get back to you. well she never did but the manager of James Mitsubishi did with the following offer, we had a meeting at the dealership and would like to settle the issue with you. We will put your vehicle on a computer instead of charging you $110.00 we will only charge you $55.00 dollars and better yet we will give you a Great trade in price for your vehicle on any new Mitsubishi, declined the offer and now I’m going to protest in front of James Mitsubishi dealership.

Hello Mr. Burch. While we are saddened to hear of your disappointment with your service experience, we do find some inconsistencies with the explanation you have provided and also with the regulations that you have cited. In reference to your vehicle service, the initial visit to our dealership was for a New York State Inspection. The regulations for a New York State Inspection are provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles and the vehicle inspections completed at our facility are done in congruence with the State's expectations. We performed the inspection on your vehicle and it failed the inspection due to metal to metal contact of your front brake pads and rotors, the license plate lights did not illuminate, and there was a loose outer tie rod with excessive play. All of these items fall under the "safety" portion of the inspection. We then continued to perform the "emissions" portion of the inspection, as per the New York State guidelines that once we begin an inspection, we have to complete it. The vehicle passed the emissions portion of the inspection which also includes an OBD (on board diagnostic) scan done by the New York State equipment which found no faults which confirms that the lights you are describing were not present at the time of your initial New York State Inspection. As you stated, you then picked your vehicle up, brought it elsewhere to have the services completed, and then returned to have your re-inspection done. Per the New York State guidelines, when a vehicle returns within 30 days to have a re-inspection completed, only the portion of the inspection that failed is to be re-inspected. In your case, as your vehicle has passed the emissions portion, only the safety portion of the inspection needed to be completed. Also, in reference to being advised by another facility that your re-inspection would need to be done here at James Mitsubishi, that is an incorrect statement as the NYVIP system is universal across all New York State Inspection stations and your re-inspection of the safety portion could be done within 30 days at any New York State inspection facility. Your brakes and the suspension component had been replaced and you had also replaced the license plate lights. Your vehicle then passed all of the safety items on the inspection at which time the New York State system issued a New York State Inspection sticker for the passing of your vehicle. As the emissions portion of the inspection, which is the portion that includes the OBD scan, was not part of the re-inspection, the lights being on at the time of the re-inspection were inconsequential to the outcome of the New York State Inspection. That being said, you were informed of the lights being on and also informed that it is plausible that during the course of the repair that was performed at the other facility or at home or where ever you had the repairs completed, that something may have happened. You were informed that we would be able to perform the diagnosis of the vehicle at the cost of $110.00 per hour. You were also informed that you would receive a 20% discount on that service as a James Advantage customer. At that point, you did contact our corporate team to which the discounted diagnosis was agreed. With regard to the indication that the vehicle should not have passed inspection, that is an incorrect statement as the New York State Inspection system cannot issue a safety/emissions sticker to a vehicle that will not pass the OBD scan performed during the inspection as the vehicle information is read, including the VIN and any on board diagnostic systems, directly from the OBD II port on the vehicle by the OBD scan tool connected to the NYVIP computer. As stated in the opening sentence of this response, we are saddened that these circumstances have occurred but in no way, shape, or form is the current circumstance with your vehicle the result of any wrong-doing by the staff at James Mitsubishi. The malicious tone of your post combined with the implication that we in some way attempted to intentionally alter your vehicle to be in an "un-safe" condition is unwarranted and shows a clear lack of understanding of the New York State inspection requirements and vehicle service in general. We would be obliged to have the opportunity to further explain all of these details and regulations as they pertain to your service further at a time of your choosing.
