The dealer had posted online on Cars.com the sale of a...

The dealer had posted online on Cars.com the sale of a new 2021 yellow Bronco for the price of $99,999. I was curious about the price as these sounded like a 100% markup. I can understand the current market situation with short/small inventories, but not to the degree of marking up a vehicle 100%. They replied and said that the vehicle was actually a demo vehicle, which would not be for sale at least until January of 2022. So why put the ridiculous price in the first place...and secondly, why list a vehicle purposely knowing that is NOT for SALE! It is because of dealers like this that make me trust less of online listings. How can trust dealers when they do this online....why not advertise that they have a demo for just that...demo, instead of this shenanigans. Direct quote from email response ..."that is not the actual price of that specific Bronco. The reason the price shows up that way is because it is not currently available yet. It is being used as a mannequin for test drives and showing. At this time, we do not have a Bronco in stock, however we can order one for you if you would like."...

Thank you for your feedback. Their are different ways everyone has chose to go with these mannequin units. We want to advertise that we have one in stock for people to look at. We have on average two people a day that look in it or drive it so I think their is a benefit in it being listed on our site. We have tried to list it without a price and were overrun with pricing inquiries so I thought that blowing the price up to an astronomical number and writing in the comments that the vehicle is not for sale would suffice. I wish their was a way to list demo in the pricing area unfortunately that is not feasible with the set ups of all of the listing sites.
