Ford is recalling more than 422,600 Ford and Lincoln vehicles over an issue with the windshield wipers that may cause them to fail.

Ford is recalling more than 254,600 vehicles, including its Explorer SUV and Lincoln Aviator, Nautilus and Navigator SUVs.

Ford’s latest recall affects nearly 273,800 examples of its Expedition and luxury-brand Lincoln’s Navigator SUVs, and it involves an issue that may result in a loss of brake function.

There are lots of choices among the cheaper-to-buy-and-drive mid-size SUVs that, when properly configured, can safely tow at least 5,000 pounds.
