Our editors were focused on all-new and redesigned vehicles debuting at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show, and after walking the show floor to see them all, one rose to the top: the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander.

Compared to last year’s results, the 2023 study showed an improvement in the overall dependability of three-year-old cars with an industry average PP100 score of 186, down from 192 in 2022.

The Grand Highlander has a family resemblance to the regular Highlander, but the new SUV’s design is less about bulging styling elements and more about sharper angles and straighter lines.

While the 2023 Highlander isn’t any quicker than the previous model, it feels sprightly, peppy and responsive; it also doesn’t lose any towing ability, either.

Toyota says the turbo four that replaces the V-6 will give the 2023 Highlander similar capabilities to its V-6 predecessor while significantly reducing emissions.

The 2022 three-row SUVs that offer captain’s chairs are listed by root model name, though some models may or may not offer captain’s chairs in hybrid or other variants.
